We just completed the prototype set of our Dakar full slider rocker guards and are looking for a willing participant to test them. Will need to be available at our prototype shop in Standwood, and be flexible for measuring/test fits, and photo shoot. Final version would be comp'd to you. We normally use a rig down at our plant in Eugene, but our designer has limited window to get these done.
Let me know, Sandy |

Sure, why not. I'm in. But DRTY get's first pick ahead of me if he wants it. He needs it after the beating he took on the Rubicon.
|
Is there anyone from the Seattle area?
Sandy |
Don't want them... got my own design that I'm currently working on.

Argo,
Good try...but who couldn't see those two replies comin ![]() ![]() |
Please post lots of pics. Choices are good. I look forward to checking out both.

What the heck is a rock slider for?
![]() ![]() You actually wheel your H2's? ![]() ![]() Sheez... I thought they were Tahoes.... HeeeHeeeHaaaHaaa Black Lingenfelter Lux |
P-town is close enough to Seattle. I'm up there all the time.

Let me know if you need a trial Vehicle in the San Antonio area. I will definetly put those bad boys to a good test.

FYI, the rock sliders will be skinned on the underside in MHNW for the ultimate reduction in friction.

Look here to see some detail of the sliders |
I'm in Bellevue. I have some time this weekend, let me know.

Sorry, meant to spell UHMW. This is what the underside will be skinned over with. This material (Ultra-High Molecular Weight) plastic provides maximum abrashion/impact resistance while offering very low coefficient of friction.
Thanks, Sandy |
Hey, I just decided to move to OR. He hehehe

Hinten:
We are back up north. Let me know when you would like to meet up at the shop for a test fit. James |
Don't know where you got that we had a facility in Puyallup? Our prototype shop is in Stanwood WA. Our main production facility is in Eugene OR. Alec, I thought I would be meeting with Hinten are you here local?
Thanks, James |
"Your" facility in Eugene?
![]() What exactly is the name on the front door of "your" facility in Eugene? S&B Member since '03 |
One of our partners is Pacific Metal Fabricators in Eugene.

Here are the first pics of the Dakar Rocker Guard prototypes. I assume you all know how it mounts, yada yada yada. If any would like some clarification just ask.

The unit wraps the entire rocker (over the plastic trim) and covers up to the frame. The underside is skinned in 3/16 UHMW.

Weap holes are located in the front and rear faceted ends to allow debris to be washed out.

Let me preface this by saying I am no engineer nor do I have any qualifications to make judgement on things such as this. But, it seems that maybe there needs to be an extra "rib" or 2 out closer to where the guards wrap upward. I would think that the area in between the square struts would be vulnerable to rocks and that the flat metal might not be enough out towards that bend. This is not criticism in any way as it is difficult to tell by just a picture.

James, those sliders look great!!!! I am sure that with your manufacturing techniques they will fit and look perfect. Nice job.

Good call, we are going to add a stiffener in that location as well as directly against the front (outer) face. This way we can keep the base material weight down while providing substantial strength.
The UHMW wraps from the outer mounting holes inboard to the frame. Thanks, James |

Are there "plugs" that remove in the bottom to allow access to the bolts? You really have me stumped on this one, yada yada yada ![]() Are these strong enough to support the weight of the vehicle at any single point? The pictures look cool. I am anxious to see how the look installed and how they perform. Will the pass the rock test???? ![]() |
You mount the brackets first then the skin (steel plating). Thats how it works.
![]() R2 Front Locker, Stealth winch, 37" Super Swampers SSR,low center of gravity = Ultimate H2 |
No problem. The Rocker Guards consist of a two part assembly. The main structural weldment first bolts directly to the vehicle. It uses the same mounting locations and fasteners as the factory unit. The outer skin is placed over the structural section and bolted up inplace. This allows easy installation of the structure without access holes in the skin to hang up on rocks, etc.
The outer skin is covered in 3/16" UHMW, the same type of material used in high abrasion applications such as bump stops in lumber mills (the same type of material used for cutting boards). The UHMW provides a very low coefficient of friction that allows the vehicles full weight to easily slide over jagged rocks, etc. The UHMW is counter sunk for recessing the fasteners. By using faceted geometry it gains substantial strength and allows it to float up and over obstacles. James [This message was edited by movietrucks on 03-03-04 at 07:18 PM.] |
Thanks james
I knew that ![]() |
I am anxious as well! Hoping to hear from Hinton this week so we can schedule a test fit. Have also talked with the local Hummer shop and it looks like they would be interested in the first set for testing. We'll see who arrives first!
James |
Just a heads up to those of you who may need a side step version. Once these are fully prototyped I will be adding a four door recessed step version with illumination.
