Thanks PhilD for the removeable steps. These are a royal PITA to install. I'm not kidding.

Start by removing the factory running boards because they're going to get bent up and rust anyway. There's 8 nuts and bolts. Start on the outside and work to the center. Piece of cake.

Now for the difficult part, installing the removeable steps. Sit on the ground. Hold step and line up alignment bungs to holes under rock rail and slide on. I said, "align the bungs... ALIGN THE BUNGS!"

Ok, so that's the real problem, aligning those damn things did take a few minutes.

Run the bolt through after aligning the bungs and holes, screw bolt in and insert cotter pin.

I only installed two because I got tired of f**king with it and it was cold.

P.S. I just wanted to say "bung" and "hole" in the same sentence.

Thanks again, Phil.

KenP 12-19-2005 11:04 PM

I'll talk to the woman. If she doesn't care about the rear two, I'll send you the front one's if you want them.

PARAGON 12-19-2005 11:04 PM

What is up with the bung holes not easily lining up. And which way do you install the bungs to the holes F to R or R to F

GLBLWARMR 12-19-2005 11:06 PM

That is definetly a better look than the stock running boards.

And here's the BIG thing. They came off PhilD's truck. Ok? There's no telling what these things have been through.

Seriously, I was joking about lining them up... some.

Thanks again Phil. CP REALLY appreciates them.

See, I told you guys it was a PITA.

Thanks again Phil.

My truck had the steps from the factory but I had the dealer swap them to the tube steps when I bought the truck. I later bought a set of steps "just in case".

Ken, I'm surprised you had that much time with her truck. On the other hand, if she was driving it while you were trying to install the steps it would explain your difficulty with the installation.

My MIL required me to carry around some steps to get in and out, seriously. Anyone watching must have laughed their asses off... </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I thought you said you didn't let her in?!

Before I got my tube steps, my MIL bought a little step and would carry it with us too b/c of her bad knee. Friggin' embarassing!

So what did you do once she was in? Was she able to reach down and retrieve the step or did you have to do that for her too.

I more than once threatened to leave it in the lot or even drive over it, but I always was a nice SIL, acquiesced, and picked it up for her. .. she cooks when she visits.

I can get the steps on easily enough, but the damn knobs are fine threaded and take forever. I cut the end off an allen wrench and use it in the cordless drill. Zip, done.

Don't get me started on my MIL!
