You guys were right - Gobi is the way to go. I tried EVERY other alternative and could not get what I wanted. They are pricey, but I ordered it today. I tried buying from both Trail-Duty and direct from Gobi- after MANY phone calls, I finally orereded it through Trail Duty. Prices were weird. One Gobi site (http://www.gobiracks.com)lists the rack at about $2500. http://www.gobiusa has it for about $2300!! TrailDuty finally matched the lowest Gobi prices, and it is being sent out tomorrow. Jeez! What an ordeal! But I can't wait to get it.

Thanks for the advice and input. There was a true concensus for the Gobi rack. Now if only you could all agree on what the best winch set up is.....

Awesome Sean, all you need is a winch, and some black rims...you would have my h2 dream truck. You may want to get some lights on that rack eventually. I would suggest going with the basic, 9k warn winch, then you can wire it to go either in the front or back. Its not very "stealth," but very functional.

VTSTOMPER 11-11-2005 01:01 AM

Nice rack! I am just shocked as how much these racks cost.

A definite yes on the lights...but see the post right below yours? LOL I'm strapped! The lights are on my Christmas list.

As for the black rims...yep. They're next.....

You like the multi-mount winch, huh? But I soooooooooooooo like the built-in like on your H1! I am conflicted.

Yeah, me too. BUT - once you look at what else is out there, they really are the only game in town for the H2.

Question...once I get the rack, the CB is next. Best way to run the wire for the antennae out to where it'll be mounted on the rack?

HELP?

Sean

VTSTOMPER 11-11-2005 01:10 AM

True - I was going to have one made by a shop here (back rack for the SUT) but I will probably go with a Gobi at some point.

Just make it easy and buy a hand-winch.

JnStitz 11-11-2005 01:22 AM

Sean- You may want to go with a handheld CB from radio shack, nothing special but it would accomplish the job. In the long run I would put in a permanent one, but having both is awesome when your spotting someone. I'm buying a handheld one here tomorrow, if you dont have it before the weekend you can use mine.

Bondage 11-11-2005 01:40 AM

I almost bought a hand-held yesterday - but I know I'd forget to bring it like I did the FRS radios last time. I want one mounted in the truck so I CAN'T forget it....

Oh my God. That looks just like the one I had in my CJ twenty years ago! Thanks, but I think I'll have to get a Warn.

I actually didn't pay for 2 of them. I originally had a stealth, remember?

Dan 11-11-2005 02:48 PM

Someone say rack?

timgco 11-11-2005 02:58 PM

Sean, if you have Q's on the installation, lights, CB route, send me a PM, and I'll get you my contact info. There's really not much to putting the rack on. Make sure you drill the "optional" hole on top for the ladder. The lights are another story. That'll take about 4 to 5 hours if you do that yourself.

I went back and forth a lot from GobiUSA.com and Trail Duty. The prices seem to be in flux right now, and the Free Shipping is an on again, off again proposition. The free ladder was cool until I realized they were charging more for the rack to make up for it! At any rate, we worked out a deal and I think I got the best prices available for a rack and ladder that were IN STOCK and ready to ship. I'm happy with the deal. I guess.

I got the adventure and the key to the deal was that they actually had the rack and ladder IN STOCK and shipped on the same day. Paid maybe $50 more than the second best deal, but that was a "when we get 'em in we'll ship 'em" kind of deal. I was in retail sales for years. I used to love it when someone would come into one of my shops and quote a competitor's price. I'd call the competitior, verify that they were out of stock, and tell the customer, "Well, they don't have it. When we're out of it, ours will be even cheaper." I like to buy something that is ready to be sold!
