THIS IS AN EXHAUST QUESTION ONLY..NOTHING BUT EXHAUST!!!

I am trying this again at a request from a few others and for myself, the other post turned into a disaster.....I counted 3 posts that came back about exhaust......

Ok, for all who have installed aftermarket exhaust...
What is the best exhaust for the H2, and your opinion on why you choose the system that you did. I am just looking for opinions, and as those may vary, I am not intending to start any arguments, I just want the facts.. Thanks.....

Yeah the last post did kinda drift from the topic a little didn't it? Anyways, I've got the JBA shorty headers and the Corsa Sport exhaust. The reason for me choosing the Corsa Sport was simply for the noise, I love loud things. The way I look at it, just about any exhaust will give you a very small performance/milage increase, so I just went with the loudest (on top of the fact that I have air suspension and the Corsa is one of I think 3 systems that will fit the H2 with the air suspension). When you start the truck up it growls a little bit, then idles down and sounds good at idle (it growls while idling, just quietly ). If you drive like a sane person and "economically" so to speak (you know what I mean, damnit!) it's definitly louder then stock, but still pretty low. But as soon as you hit it, or rev it up this thing SCREAMS! It's not all that loud inside (the truck is kinda built to be "sealed" and keep the noise out in a way) but outside it sounds like a Monster that just won't stop All my buddies love it, every single person I revved it up for (when I first had it installed before most people knew about it) had an incredible look of disbelief, and haven't had one person say they didn't like it.
If anyone is interested I can take a couple of videos and throw them on my computer if you'd like.

I can't resist:

I cut fins into an aluminum can and crammed it into my exhaust. This space age alloy has provided me 50hp, 7mpg and a sportier, raspy exhaust note. This technological marvel can be yours FREE today if you are ignorant enough to believe in its ability.

Seriously, The only units I've seen/heard upclose are the Borla and Xtremeflow. I vote for Borla although I bet Banks will eventually be top dog(this is the way I'm leaning).

The price on all these units still seems rather steep so I will likely be holding off for a while until the costs come down. Until then, I'm left only with my space age alloy matrix exhaust diffuser-charger.

I you mail me your H2, I can install this modification and send it back to you within 3 weeks.

Ok thats enough.

BADRAP,

I agree with Grim, the Corsa exhaust sounds awesome. I installed the Indy version on a vette and loved it. Not for everyone though.

Check out the sounds

That Corsa sounds page send goose bumps up my back!!!. I want one of those systems now. Does anyone know what the cost of them are? The only experience I have in aftermarket exhausts are with a 1990 300ZX that I installed a Borla stainless cat back system that still sounded great and looked brand new when the car was sold, after the system had been on for almost 12 years!

I have been in contact with Corsa and they are set to become a sponsor of this site. I have yet to hear or see their system in person, but from those who have - they were very impressed. If you can hold out a bit, I believe they will be part of this community and would not be surprised if special pricing is offered to forum members.

Keep checking back here ...

blg615 07-08-2003 01:49 AM

grim , the corsa system sounds great on their website. especially the sport model. Did you have the dealer install yours or muffler shop? Also, are we sure the dealers won't give us a hard time with warranty issues?

Jason, the corsa system is licensed by Gm as an approved accessory. If we can purchase from a sponsor with special pricing, lets all line up!!

Grim_Smoker 07-08-2003 02:19 AM

blg615 - I had my headers/exhaust thrown on by the dealer when they put my Gobi Rack on, they didn't say a single word about warrenty even though I have the Stage2B package on it. I'll be taking it to this local shop hopefully to have my cat's cut off.

Just to let you guys know, my exhaust does sound similar to the sounds on the site, but it's still quite different.

Jason - I can take videos like I said, is there maybe a possibility you could host them for the forum members to view? Let me know.

The only thing I did not like about the Corsa is the fact that the exhaust tip extends out the back. I prefer the look of the stock tip and went with a Flowmaster muffler. The shop that install my supercharger thought I should have a new tailpipe made since the Flowmaster muffler has a larger outlet than the factory tailpipe.

mr. badrap, go to grim reaper's(smoker) 04/24/03 post to see pictures of exhuast corsa exhaust tips. so cool!

whipplecharged 07-09-2003 03:48 AM

I used the Xtremeflow on mine. It was a direct replacement. One of the main things about it is that you don't have to change the 3" mandrel tail pipe that comes from the factory, so your not paying for tail pipes or tips. It has a clean agressive sound thats not to loud. The muffler is stainless and was designed for the H2 and not a retro fit from a truck application.

Also it is not a staight threw design.

It made the additional power they said.

Grim_Smoker 07-09-2003 04:06 PM

Kdio - If you didn't want the tips on the corsa system and just wanted it tucked up inside like the stock system, they have the "Offroad Sport Kit" and "Offroad Touring Kit", it's the exhaust systems basically without the tip so it stays up tucked away.

And I appologize for not getting that movie of my exhaust taken, I'll try to get it today or tomorrow (it's kinda crappy out today).

Corsa's website is a bit weak on information and I'm curious about the off-road version. It almost sounds like the off-road version does come with tips that can easily be removed when off-roading. Anyone have insight to this? I'd be game to purchase a set if Corsa comes onboard as a sponsor and offers a special price.

Grim_Smoker 07-11-2003 01:14 AM

I had emailed Corsa about this before ordering my exhaust, in the email they told me the off-road version is just the exhaust system that stays tucked up inside without tips coming out the back, but you can put tips on them if you wish to. I'll just take my tip off if I go off-road.

Chux 07-11-2003 08:59 PM

I went with XtremeFlow. Their explanation about getting good low and mid-range rpm power made sense to me. I'm not driving around at redline very much. It's also the only one designed specifically for the H2, and not a truck muffler. The two-stage design looks cool and seems to work. Sound is mellow, but mean. I'm diggin' it. Did the air intake at the same time. They have a kit price for both. I'd do it again.

PlayTime 07-14-2003 12:11 PM

Actually, for Chux and anyone else who is confused all of CORSA's exhaust systems are cutomed tuned for vehicle specificity...so the CORSA H2 system is customized for the H2, not a universal truck muffler.

It is the only one that is custom built for the H2 and the only GM licensed H2 exhaust.

They also offer two sound options:
Touring - mellow and distinctive
Sport - Aggressive and powerful

This way everyone is happy and you can get the sound that you want.

As for the off road stuff - there is a system that just comes with a turndown exit for the all-time off roader. Then there are two other tip options (Pro-Series and Hydroformed Wide Mouth) that come with a free changeabl off road tip - this way you can take off your shiny stainless tip and put on the off-road exit when you are crawling.

Playtime is right - Corsa's H2 system is the real deal. See Photo attached for the Off-Road system. More power, great sound, no drone. Why would you spend $55K for a H2 and then put a crappy exhaust system on it? Yeah the Corsa system runs $700 retail, but it is an Official GM authorized product and well worth the investment.

They have other systems with Stainless tips that can come off when off-roading if you want more show.

Batson34 07-14-2003 07:43 PM

Anybody care to share the approximate cost of the Corsa system...installed?

Red Baron 07-15-2003 01:03 PM

Joe - The "Off-Road" version does not come with tips, it has a turn-down pipe that is hidden under the vehicle. See the attached -

Skulz 07-15-2003 06:41 PM

add approximately 250 for labor if you have it dealer installed...

I'd recommend going with the off-road system rather than with free off-road tip if you plan on doing more than easy rated trails. Pretty significant change in clearance.

blg615 07-23-2003 01:45 AM

Alot of truck owners simply remove their factory mufflers and run nothing but straight pipes from the cat back to the tail pipe.
Why( other than very loud) could'nt we do that with our H2?

Albie 07-23-2003 02:10 AM

So at the dealer installed we are talking about a G.

Patriot 07-24-2003 01:08 AM

$250.00 to install a cat-back!!!

Holy crap!!!

WAY TOO MUCH GUYS...it's just a bolt on cat-back w/ no welding...do it yourself.

whipplecharged 07-24-2003 03:48 AM

PlayTime,

The Xtremeflow system was designed for the H2 directly. The Xtremeflow H2 was purchased just to make the system. They didn't pull a packed muffler with a staight threw design off the shelf that is used on other applications. They also figured out you don't need to change your tail pipe because there is already a 3" mandrel bent pipe on the H2. So why pay for a new one or two. It is a stainles steel, hand built and tuned for the H2. It also has a nice aggressive sound.

Big Z 07-24-2003 01:22 PM

BadRap, My reply on the exhaust and system I have.

H2 Nut 07-25-2003 02:52 AM

I have been following this about exhaust and it sounds like the Xtremeflow is the way to go. Has anyone talked to them about a group buy or anything like that? I have looked at their web site and they offer a few good packages.

wch3 08-06-2003 08:46 PM

I'm a new H2 owner and love the rig. I have exhaust questions and a sway bar so excuse the lapse here.

1) what's the warranty impact on adding new exhaust and CAI mod to the engine?
2) Does using a flash programming device void the warranty?
3) what's the verdict of borla vs. corsa vs. xtreme?

Heard xtreme will be offering its Power Flash, exhaust, and CAI package for 1200 including shipping beginning 8/8.

4) the big question: who really knows how much HP is added by the mods. Xtreme is claiming that by adding all three mods, you can gain 70 hp and about 2.5 mpg. True or not??

Any seasoned advice is greatly appreciated.

Of course, if I would be wasting my money on modifying, please let me know!

wch3 08-06-2003 08:48 PM

Oh yeah, the swary bar question. I heard there were some better bars one could add that would lessen the body role. I find the handling pretty good for such a large and heavy vehicle. Just curious to know if anyone has upgraded his sway bars and the outcome.

Thanks again for helping a novice owner!

H2 Daddy 08-09-2003 02:44 PM

I ordered a set of Gibson stainless steel headers and a Corsa off-road touring system. I am going to install all of it myself. I will let you all know how it turns out.

BADRAP 08-10-2003 01:31 AM

Well after debating I think that I will go with either all JBA stuff or Edelbrock stuff.. So I will let you all know when I get the new H2..
