Flashing brake light??

Does anyone have information about a set up that allows the brake light to flash, when the brake is applied, then go to steady red? I know they make one for a motorcycle, however, I have not been able to find one for a vehicle.

I might be able to hook up a set of red strobes to the brake light but they would be flashing the entire time the brake is engaged. I plan on getting a set of red strobes anyway. Being a police officer, I will work traffic for a wreck if I am the first one there and I do not want someone to rear-end my H3.

Confused. What's the benefit over using 4-ways/hazards?

I am looking for better recognition when the brakes are engaged. That is why the motorcycle rear lights were developed, to inform the nut behind you that the person in front is going to stop. Sort of a wake up call. They flash five times then go steady red. The emergency flashers are OK, however, they require you to push another button. Not good for stopping/braking.
As for emergency flashers to direct traffic - so..so. The strobe gets someone's attention better.

Thanks for the description. Sounds a little like municipal busses whose brakelights flash if the speed of the bus decreases.

check out http://www.strobesnmore.com/ , they have everything on the market related to this kind of stuff, thats where i get all i need.

I know what you are looking for, and i looked around but couldnt find one. the closest thing would be Flashback Taillight Flasher. it might not be good for you because its a hard wire product and it will do it all the time, but i guess you can put a switch on it. this is what it does:

The Flashback alternates the brake lights against the back-up lights at 2.4 flashes per seconds. It also has an additional output for deck lights.

Again, i know its not what you are looking for but check it out, it will make you visible no doubt.

oh a buddy just told me to check out http://www.lshlights.net/ and http://www.galls.com/ and http://www.chiefsupply.com/Vehicle_Equipment .

If none of these guys have it you probly wont find it anywhere.

Im betting its not that difficult to make, if you know someone with electronic/electrical experiene, maybe they can make some kinda flasher for you.

If you find please post, im interested in that too!

just found this http://www.signaldynamics.com/products/Modules/xp.asp . Its made for motorcycles, but it says something about cars too. I think it can be fitted on a car also!

Re: Flashing brake light??

I have always used them on Vettes, since I wanted to make sure everyone back off. Vettes generally stop better than most vehicles. With the H3, I say to the tailgaters, "come on under the back end and say hello to my rear axle...don't forget leave your head at the bumper.":)
Ecklers and other places sell them for Corvettes, and the systems are the same. However, the connector to the Corvette CHMSL is different than the H3. I don't see why you could not purchase one, and wire it in the old fashioned way with butt end connectors.
Basically, the units are designed to plug in-line with the wiring harness to the CHMSL (center high mounted stop lamp).

In fact, it looks like the one Eckers sells is for splicing in, versus connecting.

Re: Flashing brake light??

I have the WebElectric unit installed on my Vette. Works great. The thing I like about it over the others is the fact it does not continue to flash if you are sitting in traffic with the brake on, which can be annoying to someone behind you. It will only repeat the 3 flashes if 15 or more seconds have passed since the last brake.

The also make a Generic one which will fit any vehicle called the
BLP-1 Generic Brake Light Pulser Module

Re: Flashing brake light??

They make these for Corvettes, I would think they would exist for most brake wiring applications. It's just a pigtail that intercepts the brake signal then outputs a programmable pulse signal. For Corvette people, some think it's a piece of mind, being so low to the ground, keeping people from running up their ass.
