Torx Screw

What exactly is the purpose of the little torx head screw in the center of the tow hook base? I had to drill one out when I installed my brush guard today but after mounting the guard and the pads the other one wouldn't go back in because it was too short. Should I get some longer screws to put in there or just leave them out?

just to hold it in place while going down the production line.

That is correct. They tried all kind of ideas before comming up with this. The bumper is assembled at a supplier and sequenced into the plant, and the only way to have the bracket stay attached to the bumper before assembly was to use the screw.

it is to help gas mileage. as long as the factory part is intact, you should get 3-4mpg more than someone who drills theirs out. could explain how it works, but it is a little technical, and to be honest i dont quite understand it all. but whatever you do, dont drill it out or throw it away.:giggling:
