Yeah, there is a long thread about this in this forum if you scroll down a bit.
They both have thier strenghts and weaknesses, but from a purely offroad standpoint, the Rubi is hard to beat. 1997 Grand Cherokee TSi It's got some lift, skids, and rock rails, among other things. *member of the "No Hummer Krew"* |
Mike,
A dealer near me has 2 on the lot. One 5-speed, the other auto. Both loaded with all options, just different transmisions. I drove the 5-speed Fri, but dealer said no off-road..until you buy it. Sand dunes next to the dealership and he wouldn't let me get off the pavement.. I know Rubi was not built with sand dunes in mind, rather rock crawling, but sometimes you gotta go where you can. I see a couple of Rubi's in the dunes from time to time playing around..not many obstacles to put them to the real challenge. Some of the TJ guys act as if they're not too impressed with the Rubi. I guess there's a little resentment. Ever since I drove the Rubi I keep getting the urge to go back to dealer, and I didn't even get it off-road. The salesman called Sat,Sun and today, Mon. Now if I can just hide for a few more days. With summer weather already here would be nice to put the top down and play in a Rubi. I love the H2 and could never replace it with anything else, buttt...I would sure like to have one of those Rubi's too. |
I am sorry but you are trying to compare apples to oranges. These are two completely different vehicles in different classes. I am sorry but they have their own places in there class. It is like comparing a ford to a mercedes-benz, they just are not in the same catagory. And what is the best 4x4xfar, i only know of a Land Rover.
|
Chris,
I'm not trying to compare the Rubi against the H2..no way. Two different vehicles, with the H2 being more practical for me. Just saying it would be nice to have a Rubi...in addition. buddy |
I would rather take a defender 90 than a J**P!!!
|
D90's are awesome, except for the fact that you can buy and build two Jeeps for the price of one stock D90.
|
I think the JEEP wrangler or Jeep Rubicon Wrangler makes a nice second car for any off-road player. I have a 2000 Wrangler Sahara and other then real bad cargo space it is a very fun car. But let's face it a Hummer H2 it is not!!
|
Mike you can get a D-90 for about 20k, I have seen one or two for sale at about 18k.
|
WOW, that's cheap for a D90. It must just be the area I'm in then. Last D90 I saw for sale was a 97 and they wanted like 35k for it.
I figure you can buy and build to used TJ's for that, EASY. I'd seriously consider a D90 over a TJ if I could find one for that price though. |
I actually found one for sale in TEN or Ken for about 15k

I thionk a comparo betwwen a Rubi and A H2 is stupid.
The Rubi and H2 have differnt design targets where one would win it would stomp the other plus look at the difference in price the Rubi is a 4x4 platform that has a few accesories the H2 is a nicely dressed out suv that can 4x you see jeeps all over the trails , some with killer mods and the guys with them are do carnage because they have a great 4x4 platform and another vehicle for a daily driver at home After paying in the high 40s for a H2, and then the mods to make it go places the jeeps are moded for, you are trying to junk major money. Everyone in both communities wants to trash each other, bottom line is they are not even in the same class. I will trash my 18 g jeep with 9 grand of suspension and drivetrain upgrades, but my 51 g hummer isn't going there |

Yea but for a $8,000 investment I have a low milage (62,000) 97 TJ 6cyl auto with 6 1/2 inches of lift, 33" BFG Mud Terrians (could fit 35") Lockers, full skids, winch, belly up conversion (underbody raised so it's tucked in the frame), ford 8.8 rear, tons more stuff...they are both capable off roaders...I don't know why the land rover guys all ways feel the need to put down a jeep...heel wasn't Land rovery made to copy a jeep years ago?
Ps at $8,000 I don't feel bad if I dent it. |

Rubi (top down) is nicer in summer. H2 is a better all around (cargo, luxury). Both stink at gas mileage, though nothing compares to the H2 in this regard. |
Rubicon vs H2? you got to be kidding. The H2 is a very nice mall vehicle, with a 4wd option... the rubicon on the other hand is the best factory 4wd vehicle made, hands down.

Nice articulation
