which do you use for Front Bearing hubs?
 

so, im starting to suspect one if not both of my hubs might be going.
i havent had a chance to test them yet, but just being proactive and looking for replacements.

i have noticed a couple different manufactors out there
Timken, FEQ, and some other ones.

which do you guys use?

i see some on ebay that are $200ish for a pair of hubs, where as i see some other places that wasnt $300 for just 1...

so just looking for opinions..

My husband just put new ones on my '05 for me last week. He went to Napa and bought them for $288 a piece. SKF or something. look up an '05 3/4 ton silverado pickup and it's the same part. It will come up with different options that are cheaper. He chose not to buy the ones from China for $180.00.

well i found these on Ebay, and these seem like the best ones out there ( on ebay)

basically $200 for the pair and has a life time warranty.

but, if i am buying some crappy parts that will wear out in months or just 1 year, ya it is covered under the warranty, but would really suck to swap out hubs every year.

i run 37 inch tires, and wont go back to stock anytime soon. If anything, ill move up to 38s or 40's.
also, since i live up here in Minnesota, we get some nasty potholes too that im sure dont help. plus i like running voer crubs and will be doing some 4x4-ing of some kind.

well decided to make some time tonight to test out the front hubs.

Passenger side there was slight movement when jacked up. wasnt as much as i thought there was going to be, but the fact there is some movement when lifting up and down.

driver side- i wouldnt say ALOT more movement, but there is more movement comapred to the other side.i could noticably hear and see it lifting. dont know how much it is off... but everything i have read is that if there is ANY movment, its time to replace them.

so unless anyone has anythign bad to say about those hubs i listed above, it looks like those will be the ones i buy.

anyone have anything to chime in about on your personal experience?

I would go with the Timken they been around a while and we use them on our military equipment and they hold out fairly well.

only problem is the $$$

200+ per where as for the same amount i can get 2 with LT warranty

Hi if you don't mind changing them twice buy the cheap ones, if you do buy the name brands and spead the extra money. This is 25 years as a mechanic talking take it for what it's worth.

The Timkens are the best. Dont fall for the lifetime warranty crap - they are not eeven remotely close to the quality of the Timkens. If you need more information, go to the GM diesel truck forums and they'll back up what I am saying about the Timkens

i found some Timkend from Amazon.com for $150.00

i got through the whole ordering process before i realized they dont take paypal.....so im trying to decide if i want to take the flak from teh wife when she realizes i dropped $300 on the hummer..

so hopefully no issues! and since i used my paypal account, i dont have to worry about the wifey nagging about money she cant trace! haha!

Is there a particular mileage number where we should be concerned about the front hub bearings? 95% on the road 5% off-road.

i dont think it is a milage thing really, just more of a wear and tear type thing.

jack the front end up and shake the living crap out of the tire. if you get any movement up and down, then the bearings are going out on it, which will in turn cause uneven wear on tires and your brakes and rotors. the quickest way i found is basically lifting the tire from the bottom. since you wont get any movement down because gravity is pulling the tire down.. all you really have to do is see if you get movement when you lift the tire up. but you can still grab the tire by the 12 oclock and 6 oclock and shake it like a 3 year old.

i dont have alot of movement (to me) but maybe to others. i have been waiting for the weather to get warmer to start working on the front end.

i have some Fabtech tie rods
ill put some new brake pads on at the same time
and while im there, figure i would do the hubs as well.
almost thinking of buying the cognito upper and lower arms and doing that at the same time too.. or maybe some new shocks...

its going to be a long day regardless
