Just curious, is there supposed to be any? I do not recall if there was any on the other H3s I looked under the hood at but notice mine has none.

I dont have any also.

Steve - SanJose 02-15-2006 05:35 PM

None on my H3. Insulation placed on firewall by factory seems to be effective.

Any reason to be concerns about what the heat might do to the paint on the hood? I have had two Ford SUVs and on both the paint on the hood sucked. Don't know that it had anything to do with heat but have to wonder.

hmrlvr 02-15-2006 09:07 PM

They were Fords. What do you expect . I have noticed the paint on some fords looking bad after a few years. I also had a Chevy that the paint peeled off the hood and top???

f5fstop 02-15-2006 10:34 PM

GM uses primer.
Many older Ford trucks didn't use primer, they were suckered by a paint company that stated their paint did not require primer. I believe these were for trucks in the later 80s, early 90s. Not that familiar with the problem, but had a paint guy at GM explain the problem.
There is no sound insulator on the H3, doesn't seem to need one from what I have heard. As for heat, you bring out a good question.
I guess you could purchase one and attach it, or just hope that the testing indicated it was not required.

timgco 02-16-2006 02:52 AM

If youdrive through enough mus puddles you get a nice coating of mud/ water grime on the underside of the hood. That should do the trick.

Neither Kira's or mine have the liner under the hood either. It's kinf of nice not having it! My he has that and mud water, road grime get under there and into that liner.

That's a great idea

Thanks for the input everyone.

Was it a quick install?

I thought I heard somewhere that it had something written on it, e.g., H3 logo, does it?

I dont have any insulation under mine either, but i would get this if it has a logo or something as the previous poster asked. Does it?

Re: Under hood insulation

I also bought the underhood insulation and to answer the question
it does have the H3 logo on it.

It makes it look pretty sharp:D

what is the part #? the gmparts site is great, but a pain to find a part without the part #.

Anybody have a pic of the insulation?

Re: Under hood insulation

Is this it?
# 17800341

http://www.hummerpartsonline.com/ind...rtnum=17800341

It is listed as an underhood blanket. Of course there is no pic of the part.
It is also listed on gmpartsdirect.com.

For the people that have it; do you like it? Any pics? Is it quieter?

rmaster1 10-20-2006 07:10 AM

Re: Under hood insulation

that is the correct part number and name for it.
I like it but not much of a difference as far as noise.
It looks really cool when you open the hood and see the logo
I will post a picture of it later today:)

I thought I'd order a hood blanket even before the photos; however, look at the Processing & Handling was $75.00:

1 *17800341 BLANKET 1 $86.48
Processing & Handling: $75.00
Subtotal: $161.48
* This is a special-order, non-refundable part.

I think I can do with out, until I can find it cheaper.

Re: Under hood insulation

Try getting it from gmpartsdirect.com.

https://secure.gmpartsdirect.com/sec...TOKEN=52110933

They list it at 92.94 with 9.95 handling charge. This includes standard shipping.

You want to see something weird? These two seem like the are both Flow Automotive:

gmpartsdirect
https://secure.gmpartsdirect.com/sec...r.cfm?faqid=28

hummerpartsonline
http://www.hummerpartsonline.com/ind...?mod=faq&cmd=v
(search for Flow Automotive)

Since both can't ship to me as they don't use USPS. I am going to have to find another company, have it first shipped to my parents, or have my parents get it from the local GM dealer and then mail it to me. I have some shipping restrictions: like 70lbs and like 130 inches in overall girth. Do you guys have a guestimate on the size / weight of the box it came it?

From hummerpartsonline.com

Quote:

Why are your parts so inexpensive? Is this for real?

Yes our prices are for real! We sell only original current production original equipment HUMMER Parts. Parts and prices listed on our site are based off HUMMER pricing.

This is great. Their prices are so low because they overcharge on shipping and handling. :giggling:

When I emailed gmpartsdirect.com about being unable to search for parts on their site without the part #'s, they referred me to their "sister" site hummerpartsonline.com.

So when I want oem accessories I find what I want at hummerpartsonline and then buy it at gmpartsdirect.com

12498478 Oem Brushguard (black)

hummerpartsonline.com 458.60 shipping 91.56 total 549.36

www.gmpartsdirect.com 491.98 shipping 9.95 total 501.93

I just bought the brushguard from gmpartsdirect.com and saved about 50 bucks. Don't let the lower prices at hummerparts fool you, they f*** you at the drive thru, I mean with handling charges.

Nice comparison. We can see clearly now what they are doing to us.

Thanks for sharing the info.

Is the water that drips down from the hood vent tabs going to be a problem with the underhood insulation?

Awesome. Looking forward to the pics. Mine will probably be another few weeks as mail can be a bit slow getting to me which is okay as I have (1) a battery problem, (2) my key stuck in my ignition, and (3) stabilitrak and tcs errors ... and only 253 miles. :crying:

I like it. It really dresses up the engine bay :perfect10s:

Is that a dent in the top center from the oil cap?

It does dress up the engine compartment, but don't expect it to mask any engine noise...It still sounds the same as before - more cosmetic than anything.

No, the indentation is part of the blanket.
