Check engine LIght on at 1600 miles??

I recently put a K&N filter in and also one of those tonado things in. My check engine light came on this mourning and when I did the OnStar diagnoses they said it was a fuel system problem. Does that sound right? I know a filter adds air to the air feul mixture but enough to throw a sensor? I was going to take it to the dealer but unsure whether or not to take out the filter and tornado in case that is the kulbrit? I don't want them saying it's not covered under warrenty or something. Any advise???

i am 80% sure dealer will say the tornado thing is the problem, once they find out about it. Although it may be, i dont know. If i was you i'd just take them off and take to dealer. I dont think the filter is a problem, alot of peole have them.

How long is recent? I know this sounds lame, but check your gas cap. If its not on properly it can cause the check engine light to come on also.

OK thanks, Ya I thought it might be the tornado thing but I didn't know if the fuel sensor in the enigine was that touchy. I checked for other threads about installing after market intakes and there was no mention of throwing a code. and the OnStar guy said it was a sensor in the engine. because I even asked him about the gas cap. I guess the tornado thing does work if it throws codes like it is doing. Too much air? never heard of that in a engine but I am going to take it off later tonight. Thanks for the help:beerchug:.

since I do want some sort-of air filter upgrade any recamendations??

Best to stick with the stock intake setup, especially if you plan to use it in dusty and offroad conditions. Most aftermarket intakes just make more noise with questionable filtration.

If the tornado thingy is installed back ward it will really mess up the engine.

It will up the fuel usage because of the rich mixture.

I had the K&N filter(not intake kit) since 5,000 miles Im at 32,000 now (cleaned and reoiled at 30,000) and I havent had any problems .When I refreshed filter I stuck a white sock in inlet tube twisted it and it came out clean.
The tornado thing is junk take it out and return it:twak: WTF were you thinking

Re: Check engine LIght on at 1600 miles??

Be curious to hear what 'fuel sensor' is located inside the engine. I would recommend removing the tornado thing, and driving for a while and see if the idiot light goes off and if it does, wait a while and ask onstar to recheck for codes.
Onstar people are ok, but they are not engineers or technicians.
A filter replacement should do nothing, and I mean that literally.:clapping: From the factory, it should not have too much oil which is what causes the major problem with sensors.

Re: Check engine LIght on at 1600 miles??

Well Last night I changed out the filter and took out the tornado thing and not even 20 miles later the check engine light was off. I installed the tornado inside the air box since I was too lazy to install it after the mass air sensor.:twak: I think that was the kulbrit. I did put the tornado in the right way. I gues they do work since the K&N filter by it's own didn't do anything. As soon as I put the tornado in the airbox the engine light came on after about a half tank of gas. In my mind I think the tornado will work, but just installing after the mass air sensor. Or should I just return it?

Reliable Research shows that the turbonator type add on does not help.
