Well. Now we know that the Commander is not light pole rated.

Sad. Hemi-powered right into the pole.

The driver (only occupant) died according to the story with the photo. :(

Re: Commander=Owned

I'm not suprised. The entire vehicle folded around the pole, right at the passenger compartment. Looks like any open space inside the vehicle at that area collapsed.

Re: Commander=Owned

I think this is the problem, cars that people think are safe trucks. from the jeep forum....

the commander is frameless so it would probably bend in this direction easier than most vehicles but Jeep probably never thought of an impact like this.
i agree it still should have held up better but with no frame and the weakened roof structure then this could be a possibility.
this was probably the 1 in a million that jeep thought would never happen.
hope i never have this problem.

Fatal Crash In Waukegan

WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STNG) -- A Beach Park man was killed and a Gurnee woman injured Monday morning when their cars collided at a north suburban Waukegan intersection.

Witnesses told police that at about 8:20 a.m., Kery Bond of Beach Park was driving a Jeep Commander southbound on Route 43 entering the Norman Drive intersection when a 2004 Jeep Wrangler, driven by Ashley Story, turned westbound from the northbound lanes on Route 43 and struck Bond’s vehicle, according to a release from Waukegan police.

The impact caused the Commander to slide across the intersection and strike a traffic light support, police said.

According to the release, Bond, 35,who suffered internal injuries, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lake County Coroner’s office.

Story, 42, was transported to Condell Health Network in Libertyville with a broken leg, the release said. She was treated and released. The Gurnee woman was cited with making an improper left turn, Waukegan police Cmdr. Wayne Walles said.

Story and Bond were the only occupants in their vehicles, the release said.

Waukegan Police Major Traffic Accident Investigators continue to investigate the accident.

Re: Commander=Owned

I guess thats what happens when you drive a commander like an ass. Still really sad that a person died because of poor choices they made. This is why I would never buy a suv like a cayenne turbo or a cherokee srt8. Trouble happens a lot faster in an suv at high speeds than it will in a car.
