Hey folks!

I have been looking *drooling* on wheels now for a few days, and I want to end up with something that makes me happy.

I do NOT want a wheel that sticks out (meaning sticks out beyond the flairs. I have found the Helo black's in a 20X10 with a -12mm Offset. Trouble is, I have not a clue what offset I need to be looking for. Any ideas?

Here are the stock sizes...Wheel size 17x8.5
Wheel offset +18mm / 5.5" rear spacing. Do I need to match the offset with aftermarket 20's...and if I go 20, the wheel is 2 inches wider...acks...wtf Let me know what you all did...and toss a pic up.

this is cool.

Helped me understand what offset was better.

anyone...anyone...

I would think that if you ran a 10 inch wide wheel with enough backspacing to keep it from sticking out, you'd get some rubbing on the steering components.

VTSTOMPER 10-04-2005 04:47 PM

whats the offset on your wheels?

VTSTOMPER 10-04-2005 05:30 PM

OIC...

I have never really put too much thought into it before, and I am pretty anal with the way I would like to have it. I suppose I can toss some bigger flairs on it if I need to. I see rodster did something like that.

maybe I will end up sticking with a damn 17 and some other tires. I just like the look and feel of slightly larger rims. (18"-20")

4.5" if I remember correctly.

thanks TX!

Anyone want to post some pics of their aftermarket wheels...please do! I am more confused than when I started.

Nice shot, Phil. 15.50 is a w-i-i-i-de tire.

My tire/wheel combo along with the wide flares is a perfect fit (and that was lucky 'cause I sure didn't plan it that way). Flares and tire outboard edges are nearly identical.

37x13.50x18 tire on 18x9.5 rim with 4.25" backspace, -24 offset.

Here's a pic taken before the fender flares, which shows how much the tires stick out.

wow guys, this is exactly the info I have been looking for. I am pretty visual type of guy! Keep 'em coming.

I hear you on the BIG hub cover. When my new wheels arrived and I saw the caps I thought, whoa, we have smaller cereal bowls in the house! But once mounted, they're proportionate to the wheel/tire size and look okay. The size of the cap on the black and chrome wheel you posted likely looks bigger because the top is chrome. But I still imagine once you mount a tire it'll look right.

Shopping for tires and wheels is a mind bender (or at least it was for me). Offset, backspace, rim width and diameter coupled with some tires are sized in metric, some in non-metric . . . bah! Add to that the fact that not all tires come in sizes to fit all wheels and the whole thing gets pretty confusing real fast.

You might consider choosing your top two rims and your top two tires. Then see which combinations between them are possible. Could be that exercise will make your decision for you.

I've saved quite a few rim and tire pics to see what I think, IMO, looks the best. I've come to the conclusion that I'm going with 20x10" with 37x13.50's. 22's look sweet but I'm afraid of rim damage if I decide to go wheeling or run over a curb. I don't want to have to worry about that. I figure with 37's on 20's you have the same amount of sidewall as you do on a stock rim and tire.
