Coil spring spacers
 

I'm contemplating rear coil spring spacers.

I currently have the Cognito leveling kit with the Bilstein shocks. The rig sets level but I'd like to put another 1.5-2" between the truck and the ground. I figured the quickest way to do this is to crank the torsion keys and add some spacers.

Questions:
Polyurethane vs. Aluminum spacers...which is the way to go?
How hard is it to install spacers?
Any issues/concerns when using spacers?

I too would like the same info on spacers, for I think I might be heading that route for the rear. I did see this other option but looks pricey for me

check out this post...has alot of info but specifically page 3 post 49 talking about raising the rear. Seems like alot of work, but it seems it would be done right. Also wondering how accurate this info still is...posted early 2009

I'm actually looking at getting "gm green keys" and front rancho shocks and the cognito UCAs. Did you replace anything else besides UCAs and shocks and how is your ride quality?

That's a good thread you linked to...I'll take that into consideration. Maybe replacing the springs and shocks is a better route than just adding spacers. It's something to consider. I'm not looking to do this mod until late summer when I move to new rims (AMX Mojave Teflon 18") and 37" BFG MTs. I'll just have my dealer do all the work at once.

In addition to the Cognito UCA leveling kit and the Bilstein shocks I added the Cognito Pitman and Idler Arm Support kit and Cognito HD Tierods. The ride is perfect...same as factory. I had originally tried the Truxx keys and cranked them to level the truck, but the ride SUCKED. The Cognito gear brought everything back to a stock feel.

I recommend reading the info on Cognito's site...maybe even talking to a Cognito sales person. From my understanding, their whole setup reduces the stress on the frontend parts...and after breaking an OEM tierod on the side of a mountain in Maine I knew that the OEM setup was not optimal.

It's been about 2 years and 30,000 miles (street and trail) with the complete Cognito setup and I have ZERO complaints about the ride.

I run Cognito's with keys, ride is great. If your shocks sucked before you cranked it, it's still going to suck.

Does anyone have any additional info on rear springs for the H2? I'd rather go with slightly longer springs over spacers, but the only company I can seem to find that manufactures them is SamCo (http://www.samcofabrication.com/prod...264d0cc17c8185) but I can't get an order to process from their site, nor can I get anyone on the phone.

UPDATE: Okay...I just got through to SamCo. The list price is $360 for a set of springs. They are currently out of stock with no intention on getting/making more, but would make me a custom pair for $1,500! OUCH! I'll give this post a day or two to see if anyone has other spring sources to recommend; if not, I may be going with 1" spacers.

I really like the Truxxx spacer, it's 1" in height but lifts 1.25" it has a really wide platform so it's stable and you don't have to worry about it rolling out since it consumes the majority of the spring seat area on the top.

Thanks for recommendation...I'm having trouble finding JUST the spacers...separate from the lift kit. Guess I'll reach out to Truxxx.

Got it...thanks! I had to enter my year/make/model before that screen came up. Awesome...spacers it will be.

Any concerns wheeling with spacers?

Yep...1" spacers. Had the dealer do the work then cranked the t-bars a bit to re-level it. Been wheeling since...no worries on any count. Adds a nice little lift over the 37s and stock ride height.

Awesome! I wonder how labor intensive they were? Probably nothing I can do in my garage so I'm sure I'll need my local shop to do it.

I'd poke around YouTube for some videos. Surely someone's posted something about installing spacers on a GM truck. That would at least give you an idea if it was something you could tackle.
