Gas: H3 vs H2
Is the H2 really that much worse on gas? What have people experienced or read? Is the difference minor, or substantial?

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
Not really sure what it matters...but I average 11mpg with 37's and a very heavy foot!:dancingbanana:

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
i average 12-13 mpg with 31s and a medium heavy foot in the H3. A buddy of mine said he gets about 8mpg in his H2, but i guess it all depends on the drivver, and to an extent the condition of hte truck itself.

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
I average 14-15 with a heavy foot on my H3 (w/32's).
|
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
I get 12mpg in the H2 with a heavy foot.
When I babied my H3 in the beginning I got around 18mpg, then average driving was around 15-16mpg, then after beating it up off-road and starting with my heavy foot and excessive speed it was around 10-12mpg. ;) |
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
I get 10.5-12.0 mpg in city driving, depending on how bad the traffic is. In ideal circumstance (cruising at 55-60 mph with no traffic), I get 15-16 mpg. Cruising at 70-75 mph, I get 12-13 mpg. I get these numbers by multiplying the mileage display by 1.067, as my tires are 6.7% larger than stock (odometer reads 6.7% low when tracking mile markers for long periods).

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
here H2 combo driving 9-10 H3 14-16 so that is a lot of cash when you add it up in Gas

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
The mpg difference should not a surprise, and the actual results are conclusive here.

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
My friend had an H2 for a few months he got got like 10-12 MPG on average. In my H3 i get about 15-16 MPG.

Just like John Wayne probably ate bigger meals than Ginger Rogers and Robert Mitchum probably ate more food than Judy Garland, H2 probably uses more gas than H3. :jump: |
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
Exactly how much of a difference cash wise is 3-5 MPG?
For example, if I spend $70 on Gas with an H3 a week, getting somewhere around 13-16 MPG, how much would I spend a week on a H2 given the same circumstances? |
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
Dont forget the gas tanks are diffrent. isnt the H 3 arouund 23 and the H 2 is 28 ? so thats 22 x 2.00 = 44.00 to fill up and 28 x 2.00 = 56 to fill up. then the stock tires on both should get you around 320 to 350 miles on a H 3 and then i really dont know how many miles you get on a stock H 2 with stock wheels? how bout it how many miles guys on the H 2 with stock wheels ?

Okay, this is like one of those Mensa tests. For sake of achieving the desired answer, I must guess that the price of gas where you live (hereinafter "Happy Valley") is $2.20. That means you use 31.82 gallons per week in Happy Valley. Furthermore, I must guess the number of miles you drive per week by narrowing down the somewhat the vast range you gave for your own vehicle's fuel economy. I'm going to average your 13-16 MPG range to 14.5. (Otherwise the analysis is pointless--I average fairly close to 13 mpg during the week, but come nowhere near 16 MPG). Using 31.82 gal. at 14.5 MPG, you are driving 461.4 mi/week in Happy Valley. My H2 averages for all types of driving, 11.8 MPG. Thus, if I drove 461.4 mi., I would be using 33.1 gal gas. At $2.2 per gal., that's $86.02 per week for my H2 instead of $70/week for your H3. Thus, you save $16.02 per week in fuel by driving that thing instead of a really cool, Black H2. :jump: |
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
I've noticed that when I've had a loaner H3 that I've had much worse gas than I normally would when driving my H2. Maybe it was something I ate or maybe I was excited.:jump:

Who cares ....... if you can afford to buy it then gas mileage is not a problem :jump: |
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
My H2 is stock top to bottom, daily driver and the DIC says i am getting 11.8 MPG, on a trip to myrtle last year i got in the mid 13 MPG range from what i can recall and that was rolling between 70 and 80 MPH the whole way.
As many have said...bigger things use more fuel. Is the difference in the fuel cost going to be as much as the difference in the monthly payment...no. I am of the opinion that the fuel cost should be the last thing you should look at when making a choice between an H2 and an H3. Let's face it, the H2 costs nearly double what the H3 does which means not only will the monthly payment be more, but so will the insurance. |

Does it really matter???? Gas mileage does not play a difference in anything that we buy.
In about 3 years once the H2 is payed for me and the wife are going to get us one of these and they get about 9 miles to the gallon with Granny taking it for a drive. With me driving, I think it would get 3-4 miles to the gallon on the highway and about 1-2 mpg in the city plus a set of brake pads each week. Also Dodge just threw a hissy fit about the mustang pushing stock 500 horse so dodge has upgraded the previous 8.3 ltr 500 hpw engine to a 8.4 ltr 600 hpw engine just to prove a point that they can. |
Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
The H2 is obviosly worse on gas mileage, i mean its heavier, and it has a bigger engine so its gotta be worse on gas mileage. I guess the only you can find out how much worse it would be in your case would be to rent an h2 for a day or two and see how you do on gas mileage with that for the way you drive.

Re: Gas: H3 vs H2
Like MarineHawk I am averaging 11.7 mpg right now on mixed driving w/ my H2.
