Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
I recently put 35" Toyo open country MT's on my 2008 H3 Alpha, however, I could not fit the spare on the rear mount, as it hit the bumper and rear wiper. Is there a spare tire mount extension part on the market that would solve this problem or do I need to have one custom made?
Thanx, Bruce NOLA |
Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
interesting - it seems that people with 35's on H3's routinely attach the spare on the stock rear mount..maybe Alpha has a different mount now? Curious about this ...hopefully someone will know what's the problem.

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
Yes its true. Like the X model the Alpha carrier is not the same. In order to mount Toyo 35 spare you will need to order the stock H3 spare carrier. Use the search pull down for the link...

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
Are you saying there is a difference between the spare tire mount on the Alpha and the regular '07 H3? When I tried to mount the tire it hit the bumper on the bottom and the wiper on the top. Thanx

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
Very interesting, I have an 2006 H3 and my spare 35 fits like a glove, they must have used a different mount on the Alpha's. Was GM trying to cut costs again, shave a little off here and little there?

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
That doesn't sound right. I've got an 08 H3 Alpha Adventure and my 35" Mickey Spare fits? REAL CLOSE, but the door opens and no rubbing??

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
I agree, I have seen two Alphas with 35 MT's on them without issue.
Are you running the stock rim? ...or aftermarket? Is it possible you didn't have it mounted up properly Or did you maybe hold it up there and say no way is that gonna fit???? |
Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
I actually picked up the 35" stock rim mounted with a 35" Toyo Mt and the bottom of the tire hit the bumper, forcing the top of the tire to lean in and rest on the wiper. Perhaps your Mickey Thompson's are a bit smaller than the Toyo's. BTW I inflated them to 45 PSI. Do you think that is too much? I run off road about 20% of the time in mud. When on the Highway, they make less noise than the stock bridgestones!!! Thanx

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
I have the Alpha and am running 35" STT's on stock rims with no issues at all.

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
I've had the Toyos on mine for 1 1/2 years. Never had a problem fitting a tire on the rear carrier and I've never heard of anyone else having a problem either.

Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
hmmmm, make me wonder if there was a change in the mount OR
does he maybe have too much air. I know it won;t make that much of a difference, but may be just enough to squeeze it on there. worth a shot. |
Re: Spare tire Mount to fit 35" tire
After a renewed sense of confidence given to me by this listserve, I tried again to mount the tire. Success!!! I had to put the bottom lug on first and then push the top of the tire onto the top two lugs. It worked Thanx to everyone who replied!!!!!!!

If its snug let some air out of the tire.
