Installing subwoofer and amp

I just purchased a new subwoofer and 1000watt rms mono amp and wanted to hook it up to my 2006 Hummer H3 with the monsoon system package. However, after searching and reading through the old posts, I became confused as to whether or not all the speakers in the car are powered by the amp that came with the monsoon package in the back left panel of the trunk.

What should I do to install my new subwoofer and amp? Is it ok if I unplug the amp, or would unplugging it turn off all my door panel speakers and tweeters?

If unplugging the amp does turn off the speakers, should I just run my new subwoofer amp wire directly to the monsoon headunit? And could I just unplug the monsoon subwoofer from the amp?

Thanks in advance for your help!

BTW my sub and amp are as follow:
Image Dynamics iDMAX 12" Subwoofer
MTX Thunder Elite 1501D Mono Amp

Again, thanks alot!

I was looking into replacing the stock speakers a while back and I remember that you couldn't just replace the sub with a better speaker as the amp is hardwired into the sub. So, if the monsoon amp is on the sub, I would think that the amp only powered the sub, but I may be wrong.

1000 watts...?? HOLY COW... I've got a 200 watt 10" Bazooka tube in the back and I don't even have it turned all the way up because it overpowers the other speakers.

I think with the 1000 watt sub amp you're gonna find you need a bit more power on the other speakers.. I'd look at dumping the OEMs and upgrading 'em while you're that deep into it..

haha thanks crash, but i think the monsoon door panels ones will suffice. the stock monsoon speakers are pretty nice, and i heard that with an aftermarket headunit, they are clearer than expected for factory speakers.

did you have a monsoon system or a base system when you hooked up your bazooka tube?

Base system hooked up with a Sony head unit (supposedly a HIGH power unit, but I think we both know what that means)..

Not sure where you'd check the part numbers, other than the dealership, but I'd almost bet the door speakers are the same between the base and Monsoon..

Check this link out on jl's web-site. It is a how-to guide on their stealth sub, but I believe it may be useful to you. I have the stealth box being powered by a seperate amp - while maintaining the monsoon amplification for the rest of the speakers.
