Red Coolant

Hey guys,

It's been a really long time since I got on this board. Just wondering, my coolant is low on the 3 and I was going to fill it. However, before I do, I wanted to ask... can I mix different coolants?

I noticed Hummer uses a red coolant, and I was just going to go to autozone and pick up a jug of prestone. Should I just pick some up at the Hummer dealer and pay an arm and a leg for their coolant? Your thoughts

thanks, :beerchug:

if its the same kind of coolant that i have in mine, i'm assuming they are all the same, the dealership told me that it crystalizes in the system. They said that all i needed to do is ad water and that the coolant is good for 100,000 miles. might want to ask them....

thanks for replying. just talked to a buddy of mine who knew about this new crystalizing coolant. He said it was called dexcoolII, which i guess GM is using now. I'll see if I can pick some up from autozone or something.

go to autozone. most coolant makers are making coolants that can be mixed with either (red or green).

autozone should also carry the dexcool.

definitely don't mix standard with the dexcool.

Re: Red Coolant

DO NOT mix coolants, go with DexCool or equivalent. Adding other types of coolant could damage engine passages.
