Cluster of Exterior Lights Out, Help Please!

3 Attachment(s)
Hello,
The other night I had three lights all go out at the same time. They are the driver side: Rear park light [this light doubles as a brake light], rear red signal light, and yellow signal light. Note that all these lights are on the driver side of the H2.

I checked all the fuses and all fuses were good. I did find a wire shorted out on the frame that runs from the license light [from spare tire carrier] and is spliced into another wire that attached into a connector. The wire has since been fixed as to not short out any longer against the frame, however the three lights still do not work.

Has this happened to you before? Are there any modules that I can check that may be causing this issue?

Been trying to look through in the 2003 SM but afraid I am not having much luck. Do the emergency flashers work at all ?

Body Control Module is in the drivers side dash about mid way up, just a FYI.

I can, if you want, take some pics of the 2003 wiring pages for the lights and post them if that will help ?

Just took a "few" and will need a little bit to post them on Photo Bucket so they are "readable".

Shall return, Ed

How do I tell if the BCM is defective and the cause?

Easy Ed 09-09-2009 02:21 AM

Re: Cluster of Exterior Lights Out, Help Please!

Sorry Mods for the sizes but needed them to be readable for JMV1210...

No special order due to how they were loaded on Photo Bucket.

Hope they help find the problem.

Ed

P.S. Only allowed 10 pics so I will load the last three in next post...

P.S.S. Notice while setting this up you wanted to know about the BCM, you will need to have it scanned for codes sorry to say....and that has to be dome buy a dealer with a Scan II scanner. Parts stores cannot scan body modules that I am aware of and I do not remember if the Hypertech I got will even scan body codes but I think it was how I found out about my heated seats not working. Sorry for the vauge answer on that. Some of the pics talk about the BCM by the way.

Do you have these settings under your User CP here at the site checked marked ? The last one needs checked to see the pics I posted, I think :D

You have the option to show or hide various elements of messages, which may be of use to users on slow internet connections, or who want to remove extraneous clutter from posts.

Works fine for me....

Just out of curiousity, did you swap any of the LED parking lamps from good to bad just to make sure it's not in the light.

I know it's wierd that more than a few died at the same time but shiet happens.... maybe a surge or something.

If that doesn't work, I'd take it to someone with a tech II

Thanks Mark, I think the above post is why he cannot see them.

Thanks again bud, Ed

Looks as though a parking lamp relay might cause a probelm under the 8-432 page ?

Before i'd go digging through any other ****, stick a meter on the plugs and see if you have any voltage.

Personal experiences have led me to this- when 1 bulb burns out from end of life, replace the other lights also. Dont know if its from extra amps availabe from the burned out bulb- going to the remaining lights- overdriving them, or if quality control is just that close in lifespan.

I had 1 license plate that was out, second bulb worked, but was so black i know it was to go soon, replaced'em both. Same thing w/ the 3 rear overhead ligths. one poped 3 weeks back, second poped last week. Replaced them all last weekend.

Hey Guys,
When I got home I was able to see the pics that you posted. For some reason on my work CPU I could not see them. Ed special thanks to you for taking all those pics, man I appreciate it.

I want to mention that in my initial post when I said I checked the fuses, I meant the ones in the cabin at the side of the dash board. I never thought to check the under hood fuse box too.

I just went out side [I am at work now] and its raining, so I will check those fuses as well when the rain stops. Maybe I wil get lucky and its just a fuse under the hood. I noticed there are replays in there too. Does anyone know how to check a replay to determine if its defective? I dont have any electrical background.

Re: Cluster of Exterior Lights Out, Help Please!

I was going to "double check" ya on the two fuse box locations but after I read the post a couple of times I thought "well, he did say he checked them" and that was when I went to the book to look through it. I would check the "LR Park" fuse under the hood.

No problem on posting the pics, glad to be of service ;)

Here is a link about the relay checking.

Good luck and let us know what ya find.

Ed
