Power Steering Pump

So I have been reading through the previous posts on Power Steering Issues and I don't think I found my answer. I was hoping for some help. 2006 H2 55K.

Generally I am having low-RPM steering stiffness. It works but it is kind of jerky which indicates to me that since I don't have any fluid leaks and the fluid is at the right level that my pump might be failing. My understanding is that when the pump fails it can impact the brakes (Hydroboost). Since I tow a trailer almost everywhere I go I would like to prevent total failure.

My question to the gods: Is this the first sign of pump failure? If so, should I replace it. I am comfortable doing it on my own but I want to make sure that I am addressing the problem. If something else could cause this I would appreciate your insight.
