2001 H1 Question

Looking to buy a 2002 H1 with the "Z" vin number. Vehicle has 53000 miles. The question is ... knowing that these are the vehicles that have the cracked block problem, when is it safe to assume it will not crack? Hoped if it had not cracked by now maybe it wont. Need you guys to help with this one. Thanks.

Re: 2001 H1 Question

I bought a 1998 last summer, with 58,000 miles on it at the time it was inspected. The mechanic, Scott White I believe, he said that a majority of bad engines went out within the first 30,000 miles. He told me that if mine hadn't gone out by 58,000 that it was probably safe. Take that for what it's worth.

I have read that some motors have gone well past that though, I think 98,000 was the highest I heard, but I don't have any solid info on that.

Good luck.

supposedly they have this corrected by the 2001 MY. Meaning most of the 2000's and beyond are safe.... they also, were supposed to change the VIN digit from a Z to an F..... but... I have a 2001 with 46k on it with a Z engine never once had an issue with it. I know several others, with 2000's and 2001's with a lot more miles on them with with no issues. I know a guy with a '96 with 140k on his with no issues.... so bottom line is its a crap shoot if it will happen. If you wanted to, you could manually inpect the block for the castng change and see if yours is the "better" design....

Re: 2001 H1 Question

All 2002's are safe. the blocks were fixed mid 2001 so there is a chance that a 2000 could have the bad block.

I have 102k currently, but I did put on the head cooling kit at 75k.
