Bose Stereo Replacement

My Wife and I picked the Kenwood DPX 300U Double Din Dash CD Receiver with add on Sirius XM to replace our Bose system . We also chose 4 Polk Audio DB 651 61/2 inch for the door speakers. Since the Bose system was not working correctly I decided to wire directly to the new stereo with all new wiring.
Fitting the speakers in the doors went straight forward. After we got the correct dash mounting kit the dash unit went in with a lot of pushing and stuffing wires in a very small opening for such a large truck. The dash went back together with no problems and the door panels also went back on correctly.
The seamless clean look to the Kenwood dash unit has
great features such as iPhone connection, Sirius XM built in and a wireless remote CD and multi color display.
The new system sounds great and was well worth all the trouble and we are both very happy with it.

Re: Bose Stereo Replacement

One thing I cannot stand about aftermarket radios is the lack of Two dials, for volume and tuning.
But personal problems aside, is the factory wiring thin? Was the aftermarket wiring better quality? I've heard 03 trucks (which I have) aren't as good as newer trucks in sound quality.

If an aftermarket company could make a stockish looking unit with two dials, and all the goodies technology offers today I'd be first in line, as it stands I'll have to keep my factory radio with USA spec iPod connector.

Re: Bose Stereo Replacement

I think the single knob makes it modern , and we never use radio anymore. The 2003 like ours is 11 years old already and it was really worn out. It had very bad static when turning it up, could not play cds, and the add on Sirius did not play in stereo.

The factory wiring is around 18 to 22 gauge and I updated to 12.
Also we did a upgrade to our tuck years ago with all the correct adapters to use the Bose System and keep the door chimes but for unforeseen damage it would not play, so I decided this time to just start from scratch and change everything including speakers. We are very happy with it but it was a lot of work.
