HOW LOW CAN YOU GO???????

I got a H3 with the adventure package. I was just wondering with all the rain we've been having here in the Northeast. How much deep water can this beast drive through??? Are the doors water tight??.

thanks in advance all my H3 brothers and sisters

I forget what the height is, but even that sounds underrated compared to what i saw in at a dealership. One of the dealers was showing me pictures helping pull out vehicles in the flood of New Orleans and it was more than half way up and never had a problem. Also, the car he was pulling was floating and the hummer stayed down:cool:

24' is what is stated in advertising, and in the manual. I've seen them go thru deeper water. Just remember to keep a wake in front of you, and do not stop.

You can't drive down a river, but you can cross a decent sized creek.

My doors have not leaked YET.

Not too much of a wake -- waves in 24 inches of water can make it 30inch of water...not good for the H3...

Watch out for the rear diff vent. It is tucked up in the rear. Don't stop! I think that by moving, you keep an air pocket up there. This is no H1 with the vented drivetrain.

Would be worth the $3 in vacuum line to extend the vents. You can also pick up cheapo 1-way valves and put them on the end to prevent water from coming in. Good in an emergency, but if you bury your rig in water past the vents, it's always best to replace fluids ASAP.

Deepest I've been is about 1-1/2' creek - no bother, big splash, no problems after that.

I did this on my Cherokee, just ran the lines up to the firewall in front and the gas filler cap in back. You could also just get a long piece, loop it over & over, then put in a 1-way valve - as long as you don't sit still too long in the water, the loops will prevent water from coming into the difs (sorta like a P-trap).

For a novice how can I identify the correct lines to extend?

My vehicle may occasionally be attracted to small puddles:D

Just remember there's a difference between a momentary immersion like crossing a stream and prolonged driving in deep water. Water intrusion can cause very expensive damage.

Salt Water is your enemy

After any deep water fording (deeper than centerline of axles) it wouldn't hurt to check fluid in diffs, trans and t-case for water.

If the oil looks green and foamy you have got water in there.
Drain and flush and drive and drain and flush again to get all the water out.

Yes, thankfully no saltwater for me! Just good old ice cold Michigan water...don't eat the fish:(
