I leave next month for the big sandbox. I have a question about parking the H3 for 3-4 months.
1. Should I disconnect the battery? (If I do then Onstar will be disabled. i.e. Stolen Vehicle Tracking will be disabled, etc.)
2.Purge engine oil? I know this sounds wacky, but I heard of cars being stored for awhile would have oil drained. I don’t know why I would do this myself. But what’s is your opinion?
3. It will be kept in a covered building. Should I still get a car cover?
4. Should I jack it off the ground?
5. Should I purge the gas?
Any of you guys have other good suggestions?
Thanks.

Porsche owners use an OEM battery maintainer (charger) plugged into the cig lighter for months at a time. I use one on my Boxster for weeks at a time in the winter to prevent a dead battery.

Hey now! Thats sounds like a good idea!

That's not really too long to store a car, keep in mind that many cars sit much longer than that between the time they are built and the time they are sold. Stored inside i wouldn't worry about a cover. lifting it off the ground might not be a bad idea to avoid flat spots in the tires. Fill the tank with gas then add some Stabil fuel treatment. A full tank will help avoid condensation. You can put a battery tender on it to keep the battery charged. The best thing to do might be to just have someone drive it around for a mile or two once a month, that would help with all issues.

Or you could just send it to me and I would drive it every day for you. For an extra charge I'd even take it wheeling for ya.

By the way...thanks for your service!

Badger,

I was going to suggest you bring it to South Florida and I would alternate driving yours and mine. You know if you let one of those other TURKEYS take care of it for you they will take it off road in some nasty places. Here in South Florida we only have Speed Bumps, Curbs and Little Blue Haired Old Ladies. Not much harm there...

OH, by the way STAY SAFE, wear your VEST ALL the time and keep your Knife Sharp.
Post to us if you can...

I just got back months ago after 18 months there. If you need anything do not hesititate to drop a line, we (at least me) will try to hook you up, We were on a small fob north of baghdad but they took good care of us. The KBR guys ran a great chow hall. Keep your body armor and helmet on and head down.

I don't have recommendations on storage, but want to wish you luck and safety.

As a loadmaster ( see here) please do what you can do bring in some loads of whoopass to knock down the [sic] terrorist "insurgents" so that the locals can start resting easy.

Thanks.

Dang! You guys are the BEST!!! Its to bad I couldn't take the H3 with me. It would fit on a C-130. That's for sure! Truly, thanks to all of you for your kind words and support. Its cool people like you guys that makes me proud to serve and represent the U.S. I will be taking my laptop with me and I will be checking in on the forum from time to time. I will even send pics of anything Hummer or H3 related. As for the storage suggestions, Thanks for the input!

Take care!

Stay safe and Thanks!

About storing... When I was in the Navy and came back after 6 months I had no problem starting my car. The only people with problems were people with old pieces of junk cars. No one with a nice car/truck had a problem that I can remember.

BADGER,

I feel your pain brother. I am over here for my second 3 month tour since I got my H3, and it sucks being without it. I have my wife drive it a couple times a week to keep it in shape, but that is the better of two evils, if you know what I mean!!! Safe travels!!! See you in the sand box..
