How do you unlock 4wd??
Button is highlighted on 4wd normal though when I turn sharply the back tires feel like there locked. Put it in 4wd low drove backwards a many feet then switch to neutral then 4wd high heard the unlocking noise from underneath then proceeded to push the 4wd normal button and it still seems locked. Any suggestions?

Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
Can you have someone watch closely as you turn in a tight circle to see if the back wheels are turning properly?

Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
back wheels are turning properly though it's really tough when driving in circles

Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
it sounds like my problem ( locked in 4hi lock).

Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
Sounds like it might be time for an encoder motor. Or you melted the shift fork in your transfer case by driving at highway speeds in 4hi lock for too long.

Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
Today I found out what the problem was....And i must tell you first that I could of just not told you what happened and let this thread die but I'm a man maybe stupid after hearing this though I will tell it anyhow.
A couple a weeks ago I inquired about how to change the differential fluids on my 2003 hummer h2. I got good replies back on how simple it was and some with if your not comfortable let a professional do it. So the mistake was+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ ++++++++++ changed he rear diff. with bo problems when i went and changed the front diff. it was not the front diff. it was the transfer case. Out came fluid which I did not pay attention much of and in went the GEAR OIL. What a stupid idiot i am. So my mechanic buddy had a couple laughs with this one and then flushed it out twice to remove all gear oil inside and is now seeing if this did not do anymore damage to the transfer case. Other than that I have to also do the following: Pitman Arm Idler Arm Cognita kit and finally left front wheel bearing $$$ ohhh and the stealership had wanted me to do the steering gear box thinking that would eliminate the problem i had though my mechanic said they where going to rip me off b/c I do not need a steering gear box and they would've never eliminated my problem w/ the transfer case. So hit me up with all the jokes...I deserve it. Sorry HELLZ and all the other professionals out there. |
Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
lol, no need to apologize to me.. im in no means a professional.
glad you got it all worked out tho. im sure at a cheaper cost than it could have been too. as for the other things on your list, they should be straight forward and not easily mistaken for another part. i would recommend doing both HUBs at the same time, but i know its $$$. once you do one, it gets alot easier to do the other. |
Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
There is a old saying, nothing ventured, nothing gained :beerchug:
You learned something, nothing damaged (well maybe the pride) but I will not be one to give ya any sh!t for trying. Congrats for finding out what happened and fixing it. Ed P.S. Front diff is under front "H2" skid plate.......come on, I had to do it :giggling: |

Re: How do you unlock 4wd??
I am having the same problem i dropped out the transfer case and it appears the shift fork is wore. I wanted to replace the fork. Should i replace the ring with the brass gear the teeth are wore? and if i do that should i replace the drive sprocket on that side? and finally do i have to replace the chain and the other sprocket to or can i just change the one?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. by the way this is a 2005 H2 |
