Really need help Rancho, alpha
Hi guys i am brand new to the hummer seen and i am purchasing a 08 h3 and going to add the rancho 4 inch lift kit and wondering if the alpha extra power would help me out off roading and highway driving, or would it be better to get there regular model and turbo charge that? Thanks Alot

Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
There's no substitute for Cubic Inches......
Plus issues of possibly voiding your warranty adding a turbo..... |
Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
The alpha has a cast iron front diff. The I-5 uses an aluminum one that will likely grenade if you put a turbo on it.

Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
The Alpha is engineered for the extra torque and HP. I think the the Alpha package adds about $4000 to the invoice. But you getting a GM Engineered Warranted Vehicle. Those After Market Superchargers are around $5000.
There nothing more the a supercharger made to work on the I-5. How good..??? Wouldn't want to find out after blowing up a diff or tranny and find out I have no Factory GM Waranty left. :lame: Stick with the GM Engineered ALpha.. :beerchug: |
Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
hey thanks guys i really appreciate the help

Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
btw - if you are buying the h3 for off-road use, be careful with adding all that lift and changing the center of gravity. the extreme off road guys on this forum tend to increase tire size, do a torsion bar crank, etc to fit bigger tires without having to add a lift.
just a suggestion. |

i thought the cast iron fron diff will be across the line on 08 and up. no?? |
Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
if you know about cars (h3s) then you can upgrade your car for the better if you can without screwing it up. But if you dont know jack, and want more power, get the alpha. I dont know if it offroads better, but it has more power. I guess it climbs better, but I dont know, i havent offroaded with my 07.
On the other hand, how can an alpha help with highway driving? A 1988 Civic can drive on the highway, so why wouldnt an 06-07 h3 not be able to? I dont understand people these days. |

Sounds like a logical idea, but that's not what I heard here. |
Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
2345 (or is it 6789) - What's the price difference on the 08 regular vs. Alpha that you are being quoted?
For the typical H3 owner, the power difference on the road will be the biggest advantage of the Alpha. |
Re: Really need help Rancho, alpha
^ i heard around 34,000 from my dealer for the alpha

Hummer scene? The question is kinda dumb (don't get all sensitive). If you were going to turbo charge or super charge a brand new engine, and a larger displacement engine for the same model was available, why wouldn't you try that first? The GM warranty is valuable if you plan to off road your truck. They've been good at standing behind mine for damages sustained while off road. In some situations (rare by my guess) the extra power might help you off road, but in most cases it is power (the misapplication of) that breaks things off road. The H3 has plenty of power (torque) in four low locked, with the 5 cylinder motor available. This is mostly due to gearing. They geared the Alpha from 4.56's to 4.10's because of the new engine power. |

geeez, that would suck. this shoudl definately be across the line, its just extra expenses to produce too separate parts that will do the exact same task. seems like a waste if its not across the line. oh and Matt, that price tag of $34000 aint gonna happen, unless your packing some serious discounts, umm... like $10,000 worth |

For sure, they may have partially turned the corner, but still a ways to go. |
