Hummer Trans Shot at 22k Miles

I've had my 06 h2 for about 6 months, has 22k miles and the transmission is shot. dealer says clutch/shift? plate for 4th/5th gear went bad, so they are doing a rebuild. Lucky for me, still under warranty for a few more months. I was planning on keeping this truck long term, but may sell before warranty expires. Power sterring went bad last month too. any common problems for these trucks under 100k miles?

Obviously having GM components, the usual fail at normal intervals. Having said that... your trans failing at 22K is not normal.

One thing to look for is the cooling lines coming out of the radiator for the trans. As with all GM's that have plastic tanks, the fittings get broken for the tranny cooling lines and will usually trash a trans if not caught soon enough.

I sold my first H2 with 112K and other than the usual crap. (waterpump, fuel pump....alternator, usual crap, I had no incidences)

Keep us informed as to what they find.

Hi you must mean overdrive because a 2006 doesn't have 5 speeds? its a 4L80, 4-speed automatic. That is rare for it to fail with only 22k on it maybe it was well use before you bought the truck? 4th gear or overdrive clutch pack must have failed. Its the first clutch pack right behind the pump. I don't want to tell you bad news, but when car companys do warranty work they do not rebuild they only repair the problem to get it back on the road, unless it totally gernaded inside then they would get a new one or rebuild it.

Thanks for the info. The service manager said they were waiting on parts to do the rebuild, but it was only going to take 2 days, so I think your right and they must not be doing a total rebuild. Problem with buying a used car is you never know how it was treated before I bought it. Leaning towards selling/trading it when I get it back or atleast before the factory warranty expires. Been in the shop 2 times and I've only owned it for 6 months.

Hi i am a mechanic and i have a few buds that work in dealerships in canada, so i know how it works. Maybe its different at dealers in the USA but i don't think so. I wouldn't give up on your truck just yet, you would likly lose money dealing it in? I have 2008 and its been in for a few little things under warranty to, oil cooler lines leaking and front diff leaking.
