GM will use January's Detroit auto show to unveil a Hummer H4 concept, according to sources cited by Automotive News. The small truck would be designed to compete with the Jeep Wrangler, the report said. A production model would likely arrive for the 2010 model year.

In June, rumors began circulating that General Motors might dump the Chevrolet TrailBlazer and effectively replace it with a new Hummer model called the H4. Currently, the brand has two models: the H3 and the H2. The large H1 was discontinued this summer.

General Motors has said it's interested in expanding the Hummer line by two or three models. As confirmed by recent spy photos, the automaker is also believed to be developing a pickup truck based on the Hummer H3.

It has bothered me since I first read that GM was planning to get rid of the Trailblazer and replace it with a smaller Hummer, dubbed the H4. It sounds like it is going to turn into fuel for Hummer haters the same way that they accuse the H2 of being a Tahoe with a different body. I can already envision people accusing the H4 of being a Trailblazer with a different body. I might be being nitpicky, but I really think that the marketing personel in charge of these press releases should be making no reference to the Trailblazer at all, and simply make it convenient that the Trailblazer disappears and that the H4 is released.

:iagree:

I don't see how the H4 could "replace" the trailblazer. The H3 is already smaller in size, power and capacity and the H4 would be even smaller.

But I can see them letting the trailblazer go. The GMT-360 platform hasn't been very versatile for GM. It's only been used for 6 Trailblazer/Envoy clones, 9 including the EXT and XUV models. So far the SSR is the only unique vehicle to use the chassis and it's been discontinued.

Besides, apart from its size, the Trailblazer doesn't offer any advantages over a Tahoe in power, fuel efficiency or capacity. It puts a mid-size SUV into all the product lines but that's it. GM doesn't need more product clones, it needs brand differentiation.

Exactly. I do like the looks and performance of the Trailblazer SS, though. We live in a small city of about 15,000 people and I have seen three or four around town. It is a little out of my price range for a daily driver, though.

Now, if they built a non-hummer midsize SUV on the GMT-355 platform, they'd have something to replace the trailblazer with. It would be the best of both worlds ... eliminating a whole chassis line while keeping the strength of the body on frame and sharing parts with the truck and hummer lines. It makes even more sense with the V8 option coming down the pipe.

This will be a great seller for GM. like the H3 it fills a gap in the Hummer line up left by the dinosaur H1. People like the Hummer concept and want something that parks and handles smaller.
If it is done right GM will with the H4 fullfill buyers & shareholders with a going forward machine that will hit the trails better than the big machines...:grouphug:

Hummer H o concept pic. Don't anticipate much out of the H4 if this is the type of thing the Hummer designers are working on.

The algae is supposed to consume CO2 and make O2 in the concept. Interesting idea.

I'm ready for Detroit!!! From what I've heard, the H4 should be pretty awesome! I think it's going to be somewhat of a surprise to some. :shhh:
