Rattle/Vibration in engine compartment!

I have noticed a rattle/vibration that is coming from somewhere under the hood of my 2009 H3, automatic. It seems to be worse when the car first starts and when it is cold outside.

It also seems to be loudest when I first hit the accelerator and then it goes away.

Sound familiar anyone???

On the bottom of the page it says 2008 and up h3's dont have a tensioner ?
I have a 2006 and it has one.
I recently replaced the belt(75K) it looked ok but changed it anyway and saved it for a spare.

Tightened everything up. Put factory filter back in. Still have the noise!

Does the 2009 H3 have a belt tensioner?

Can anyone explain how to get to and check to see if it is the heat shield? I don't even know what this is!

Thanks!

I am lucky and have a brother in-law who owns a large truck suspension and repair business.
I asked him to take out my H3 (06 adventure) to figure out all of the clanks, metallic noises, shimmies, and shakes.
He found that the rear joint was falling apart and that the drive shaft was making the noise.
My H3 has 70k miles and has been making the noise since before 50k.
My H3 has never been off road and I drive like a nun.

Have you rear and front joint checked. good luck

just curious, but did you ever resolve this? what was it? I ask because I have a noise and definite vibration and cant source it, though after reading here and following the tensioner link and having all ready replaced two belts in two years, i'm now fairly certain its the tensioner.

I had this very issue....it was a vibration, and drove me crazy! Mine is a 2009 as well. It sounds like a heat shield rattle, but is not.
The two AC lines that go into the firewall, on the passenger's side, somehow start to vibrate as the vehicle gets older. If you have someone inside your rig start it up and get it to vibrate, take your fingers and apply pressure to both of those lines, like you are clamping them together. The noise should disappear. It did for me. I used a removable tie wrap, and it worked great! no more vibrations!!!

I cannot locate this noise for the life of me! I have replaced both the tensioner and belt twice to no avail. I have wiggled and shimied every exhaust shield. I just cant find it!

Solar, I will try the a/c lines. This is something I havent tried. I will report back.

Thanks to everyone who has responded so far!

Guys.....I am losing my mind on this! I cannot for the life of me find this noise!

It sounds like sheet metal vibrating when I accelerate from low speed. I have looked everywhere. Help!!!

Get under the truck and start tapping on all exhaust components with a rubber mallet
