New GM Diesel

This could be good news for the H3:

GM Plans First Light Duty V-8 Clean Diesel for North America

http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayS...=2&docid=37112

"The new dual-overhead cam, four-valve V-8 diesel engine will fit within the same space of a small-block V-8 gasoline engine. "

The question is "how many people would buy an H-3 with a diesel ?"

This is at least the fourth time in two months there has been an article posted on this forum about the new GM diesel. Which, states in the article...H2 NOT H3, and it will NEVER be in the H3.

I also saw post in the past saying the H3 would NEVER get a V-8, won't fit, blah blah blah...... Guess the Alpha is not real. NEVER say NEVER :twak:

Mmmmm, one of the most interesting and significant diesel articles in a long time. Clean tech, 4.5L

Never saw a post from me that said the H3 would never get a V8! Why? Because before I purchased my current H3, I had already seen the V8 version.
In addition, my previous message never implied a diesel will never be in the H3, only that the 4.5L will NEVER be in the H3. If you read the auto papers, or had been on this forum longer than a few days, you would know there is a diesel in the H3 for European/Asian export. Therefore, a diesel is in the H3, but NOT the 4.5L.
As for the US market, I will say what I have basically always said, "there is NO diesel slated for the US/European H3; AT THIS TIME. "At this time," does NOT mean:
Yes there will be one in the future or No there will never be one in the future. It basically means at this time, no one at GM believes a diesel in the H3 is a worthwhile project due to the limited number that would be sold. Someday in the future, this belief may change as the market changes. However, for the market to change, people have to change and accept a diesel in something other than a truck or a vehicle used to tow or carry a large load.
So, :twak: yourself.

I posted to this forum because I thought sharing information was a good thing. Didn't know the dorm mom would come unglued, long winded rants, caps, etc.....

Unless you are Bob Lutz, posting under a psuedo name, you have to high an opinion of your opinion.

Lets talk H3's and can the ego trip :twak:

People who have been on this forum for a while look to f5fstop for the answers, because he almost always has them and is almost always correct. You, on the other hand, are just a tempermental noob with nothing to offer except for the mildly-entertaining prospect that shortly you will be mercilessly abused if you stay on here and continue to act that way.

Keep it up, a$$hole.....it means git the fawk out.

Next time you 'share" with us, try searching first....this has been disscussed to death already.

Seems as though you're the one with the ego trip, can't say you're sorry when you've been :OWNED:

My first post was a nice way of saying....use the search key. (Someone else would have eventually stated the same thing.) My second post was in answer to your second post where it appeared you had problems understanding English. Was it long-winded, probably, I was waiting for my laundry to get done so I could head out to the range.
So, want to start all over again?
Hi, welcome to Elcova.

Re: New GM Diesel

I still think an H3 with the diesel would sell like crazy. Particularly in the truck. I think GM's over-analyzing consumer affairs department is underestimating the popularity of such a feature. And my contention as for why more diesel SUV's aren't sold is that they're aren't any that people want to buy. I think the H3 (or any of the nicer SUV's) with a diesel would be a hit. Dealer's have to be FORCED to order them as well, and then the would sell. :D

TDI VW's at auction are bringing, and have been bringing astronomical values. Particularly the V10 TDI Toureg.

Why? Most H3s, as well as H2s are sold to as vehicles that the only off-roading they will see is running over a parking block in the Kroger parking lot. For that, a diesel is not required. For those who will tow a large boat, a diesel would be nice, but what is that number when talking H3s.
I believe, right now, GM's marketing research is right on about the diesel. Heck on this board alone there are only 6-12 who would like a H3 diesel.

Will GM's marketing research come up with a different survey next year? They could, all depends on how the US consumer minds change in regard to the diesel engine. Right now, diesels are not a popular item in the USA; unless the person pulls a large trailer, or uses it for work.

I think getting folks in, driving the diesel next to the gas, maybe 15%-20% would pick the diesel. Why? For towing, mileage improvement, power, biodiesel, brawn. But the dealers have to do their part to and order the vehicles, or they won't get sold. I'd go into the H1 issue on that, but that's still very contentious.

If GM wants to do a great market research project, they should bring in some of the diesels from HUMMER worldwide, mod the emissions, slap them into LHD, and put one at every or select dealers, not for sale, but demo. Then see how many orders come in. If they make the break-even, then they should consider the green light. I realize it's not that easy however.

And of course they've got the aftermarket mod, but for the price, I don't think people even consider it (I wouldn't). But a diesel is a great engine, though you've got to drive it first, in a vehicle you like, and then I think it's a no-brainer. That's why I think they should put demos out there, because that first drive destroys any preconceptions that someone has about a diesel.

I don't mean to argue with you FStop. I just can't understand GM's stumbling block. I don't think the argument is there.

Nothing to argue about Aubs. It's a marketing decision, engineering can run an H3 with a diesel; whether or not it could be sold in all 50 states or just 45 is another matter.
Let's see in a few years and see how they sell in H2s!
