Light switch looks different

Hey all
I have been looking at the light switch in my rig for a while and it just doesnt look right.
Doesnt seem to match the rest of the interior.
This is the light switch for the exterior lights and also has the roller for the interior lights.

Basically what I am getting at is the interior switches and such seem to have a slight bluish hue mixed into the white part of the switch.....
My light switch doesnt have that bluish hue, but seems more tannish. The actually switch looks like it might have been replaced since it is completely different. It is very apparent when you look at the wiper switch and really shows different when the lights are on and the back lights show through.

I am just curious.... is everyone elses light switch like this? Is this normal? Or is it possible that the switch was replaced and it isnt the right one?

If you need pictures I am sure I can provide them
Let me know
thanks

Could be the light bulbs were replaced and the blue covers were not used. I have been replacing any bulbs that go out and try to reuse the covers. I tore one and it only covered half the bulb and now I notice that it's a different color.

That would possibly be the reason. When I swapped every bulb in my truck to LED every filament type bulb had those covers. However the odd thing is the 4x4 buttons and tow/TC buttons actually have a blue tinted lens. Even with white LED's the switches are all slightly blue and drastically different than all the bright white I have everywhere else.

LJ, thats what I am saying.

I am not talking about the lights at all.
I am talking about the white areas on the switches (yes these white areas light up when the lights are on, but even without the lights on you can see a difference in the white)

I might have to take a picture for you guys to see

Yeah snap a pic for us to see, I'm curious to what they look like. I'm half tempted to say the tannish color may just be dirt from over the years. Some of the lenses can really turn to junk and look horrible if they are regularly used. Between dirt, finger oils, sweat, etc it can really make those areas nasty. I know when I bought mine, my steering wheel buttons light up literally brown they were so disgusting!

Re: Light switch looks different

OK been awhile, I know, but here are some picture.

Above you see it during the day light. If you look close, you can see the difference in colors... the wiper control having a bluer hue

Above you can see the lights while lit, and you can see that the wiper control have a different hue (bluish) and the light control almost tan

I know the pictures arent the best, and dont actually represent the true difference, but they are the best i can do with the camera I have. Everything is clean, and there isnt dirty on the switches

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Let me go look at my truck.....oops I cannot do that but, it looks like someone been in there before, just a guess  on my part. Take it apart and see if it looks like someone has been there before. Should have new manual Saturday to guide you to find out ;-)

Thats funny Ed

Yeah I am not sure about the blue covers so muh as even when the lights are off you can kind of see a difference in colors....

Almost like it is a different part from when new? (ie... it was replaced and since many parts are interchangeable it was brought in rom a Yukon or something)?

just my observation

That's really odd, I have an 06 and I don't have the small amber light or the light on the auto option.

As far as the color, it wouldn't be green if the covers were missing. Someone has messed with those lights or those controls are out of another vehicle which is highly possible as there's quite a few platforms who use similar setups.

Here's some pics of mine:

Lights off, no indicator lights like yours:

Lights on, as I'm sure you know I replaced all my lights with white LED's that's why mine are so white.

2003 model does have the two lights when I looked at the owners manual on-line, page 2-49. I would say that they should be a amber color like the bottom light for turning off the head lights, but that is just from memory.

Re: Light switch looks different

So what are we finding out here.....
LoJac stated that it is possible the backlighting has been messed with out the control are out of another vehicle ....

Ed has stated that the controls are similar to what I should have in there, though that doesnt mean it is what it should be. Oh and we learned that LJ's truck doesnt have the model light control he should...

jmudler states his looks exactly the same

zx1100 has informed me there are blue covers and possibly the covers are missing

So, with all this help I have come to the conclusion that I just need to rip into it.
I have a feeling that if I get a new setup and then LED the interior lights, I will probably not have the issues anymore.

Re: Light switch looks different

Apparently there was some slight variation from the early years to the mid years.

Just FYI, when I did my full dash in arctic white LED's the 4x4 buttons and tow buttons burned out blue. For some reason the lens on those buttons have a blue tint to them while everything else does not. Also the escalade gauge face I installed also has a blue tint to they actually match.

Re: Light switch looks different

Interesting

I know I need to get to that too, probably when I fix the steeper motors

Where did you get your lights from?

Re: Light switch looks different

Ebay, I think I had maybe $30 into the LED's and still have a box full of them. I tried different colors, sizes, types (refracted and non-refracted) until I was happy with the result.

I can try to figure out the seller I bought them from for you if you're interested. Top notch seller, they would bag and heat seal each different type of LED and label each bag so you knew what was what in the box.
