OK, from the heading most of you have figured out what I gota do. yep change the Engine.
So here's the question(s) 1) what equipement is required for the removal and replacement. (anything special) 2) for a guy with a resonable amount of brains, roughly how long should I expect it to take. 3) with the engine out what upgrades would you concider for the new engine(6.5 t/d in 99 wagon). 4) anything tip's you can give(exept takin it to a dealer, no way am I paying $14,000. for someone else to do it for me) |

Honestly I would check at amghummer.com
I would also search the archives at hummer network a (and ask them also). A couple of guys have done it themselves as well as a couple have had the dealer or other professional mechanic do it. |
the local dealers are looking at $8,000 for the new long block, another $1,000 for fuilds, gaskets and other misc bits, and the rest to fit it??.
Ifigure I can convert half my barn into a workshop, purchase any of the tools that i dont have already. and still save a s#it load of moneyleft over and also gain some valuble lesons!!!(spelling not being one of them) |
Get a hold of GMPartsguy and ask him about his pricing on the Duramax engine and Alison transmission. He's nice to your wallet.

I do have an Allison just laying around BTW. ![]() Seriously, I would call the Diesel Depot, you can pick up a basic long block with the updated block for about 5K delivered. I think they also include the newer ceramic coated pistons in that price too, but you should talk to them first. Only upgrades, I would have your IP resealed with the Artic kit while its out by a Stanadyne facility, and fabricate or buy the cooling kit for the rear water passage. The only special tools would be the engine removal/installation cradle strap. (I borrow one from an unnamed Hummer dealer). |
I already have the rear hose kit fitted on the old block. what do you mean have IP resealed????
