On my window sticker it states "1ST ROW LEATHER SEATING SURFACES, 2ND ROW LEATHER APPOINTED SEATING" What exactly is the difference? When I was checking out the seats in the back I thought just the center felt like leather and the side bolsters felt like vinyl, is this what "appointed" means?

I think it means that anything that touches your butt is leather. Anything on the sides and stuff is "pleather" fake leather.

So, yes, you are correct!

Okay, I do mean the top seating surface, just the center feels like leather, on each side of that center section, on the actual seating surface, feels like vinyl. You'd have to have a real skinny butt not to feel the "pleather".

Just remember the only difference between leather and pleather is that pleather cleans easier and last longer. But both are equally hot in the summer and freezing in the winter.

Center areas of the front seats and seat backs are leather, rest is vinyl. Almost all cars, except for the real expensive have seats made the same.
I believe in the 2nd row, it is the same; however, a center passenger would only be sitting on vinyl, so the wording is different....again for second row, I believe.
(On a vehicle with ebony/morocco leather, the brown is leather.)

Got it, thanks f5fstop for the detailed explanation.

I thought that by surfaces that it meant that the the SURFACE was leather but the rest of the seat was made of foam padding and metal framing. Not sure 'bout APPOINTED, doesn't sound comfortable. But how would I know, I'm not as sophisticated as most.

Speaking of hot & cold leather, what is the best way to cool down your leather seats on a hot day. I've ridden in a car with a seat that would never cool down... the heater was NOT on.

I'm going to keep posting until this elcova newbie tag gets changed to at least Hummer newbie.

you want leather on the side bolsters as real leather can take a huge beating from sliding in/out over time. i had all leather in my last ride and, although high quality nappa leather, the side bolsters started to wear.

Guys and Gals, GM has to Short cut some how to Keep those cost Low, If it was all leather it would be another 10 grand. caution!! don't pull on those fabric strings or you will have to reaposter. The back Seats are crap. Fold them down, Light as feather, Cheep, Cheep, Cheep. Sorry My oh-pin-onion.

H3 is offroad vehicle. Offroad vehicles shalt not have leather seats. Just my opinion.

I bet Lexus SUV has leather all around, even on the bottom

Easier to get mud off of...

A) Cloth
B) Leather
C) None of the Above

I choose B.

Forgot C...Jeep Vinyl, or did I mean cheap vinyl.

My 2003 Vette had leather side bolsters and after 12K miles the dealer replace them, with vinyl side bolsters, and it was hard to tell the difference. To get leather that can hold up to the wearing on bolsters, due to sliding in and out of the vehicle, would add probably 1K to the price of the vehicle, and still not guarantee they would not wear. That is why only the center is leather, less wear
