Well, the Sierra's in the shop. I've GOT to figure out a way to keep the rodents from getting at the wires. I'm shootin' 'em, poisoning them, you name it, they're screwin' faster than I can kill 'em!
Anyway, I had to go get a load of lumber so I took the H3 with a borrowed trailer. It was a trailer with no brakes. I had a little less than a ton on the trailer. The H3 does pretty well. It downshifted at every rise and when I got to the mountains with it, it was pretty much a 2nd gear, 3000rpm affair for twenty miles. It'll do the job. I wouldn't want to do it all the time. The weight of the H3 is evident in cornering, the trailer didn't push the H3 around very much. Stiffer shocks in the back and tires with a higher load range/stiffer side walls would've made it even better. |
good info , thanx Huck

HuckBB62 - Good to hear about a real towing experience.
Yea gophers used to be a minor problem on my property. But my next door neighbor said that he has the ultimate bait/poison formula (proba bly illegal) and I haven't seen any sign of gophers for over 18 months. Fortunately he has not killed any other wildlife with the bait. S. |
On a weekly basis I tow a car trailer loaded with a car (and an occasional SUV) behind my H3 about 45 miles. I do have the auto tranny and the trailer weighs 1300 lbs. alone and has 2 axles, both with electric brakes. It does fine, you just need to get a decent run going before any large hills.
![]() It does great with a car on the trailer; loaded with an SUV (such as an Explorer) is pushing it...but I have done it several times. H3wannabe |
H3wannabe, where'd you mount your brake controller? I've got a Prodigy on my truck, I'm thinking about buying a harness for the H3, it's just that my knees would hit it anywhere that I'd put it.

Mothballs will drive away rodent and snakes.

Grandman, where'd you mount your brake controller?

I mounted mine right above my right knee...but it helps that I have an automatic, which allows me to keep my seat set pretty far back. It also helps that I am only 5'8". ![]() ![]() H3wannabe |
