I want to get a recovery kit and was looking at the ones that PhilD has over on Trail Duty. The question is: which one?

The medium sized one looks like it would be fine for wheeling with H3's all day. But on the ever so slight chance that an H1 or H2 might need help (Say it couldn't be so! - Just kidding guys and gals - don't get yer knickers in a twist! ) would the medium sized kit be up to the task?

I want to be prepared and have the right kit for the job. Plus, I only want to have to buy it once. What are your thoughts?

I purchased a HI-LIFT recovery kit off of ebay ($25.00) brand new.
It came complete w/ tow rope, gloves, (2)D-rings, jack chain, tree anchor, pulley kit and rubber coated wheel lift hooks. I bought a fold-up shovel at REI for $20.00.
I'm good to go!
The med.size kit should be plenty for the H3!

Trail duty puts together a nice recovery kit for a reasonable price.

I got the medium sized kit when I got my H3, I leave it in the back of the rig.

Trail duty has nice stuff and great customer service .. just my 2 cents

Trail Duty is the shiz-nit--i always like to go bigger, after all bigger can always handle smaller.

I got the Heavy Duty Kit 1 from Trail Duty.

Just ordered the Tilt Meter from them.

I have the Heavy Duty Kit 2 and used the rope to pull an H3 around all day recently. Worked great. (notice all the smiles)

I know someone that will probably be preparing a whole plateful of whoop-ass for you when they read that!

About the recovery bag. I doubt you'll ever break the 3" recovery strap but is it a static, no stretch strap or is it one of the straps that let you build up momentum to snatch someone out of a stuck? If you're ever going to use it, I've seen some scary, SCARY stuff happen with the sretchy kinds. These guys were moving a tree off the trail with a 12,000 lb winch, a recovery strap, and snatch block. The cable crimps let go, we never ever found the snatch block. All we heard was it whistling off through the trees!

A buddy borrowed my 3" recovery strap, I didn't ask him why. He was using his truck, pulling backwards, to pull bushes out of his front yard. A stubborn one held on, he gunned it, the bush LAUNCHED onto his hood and smashed his windshield! (oh God, I'd loved to had the video of that!)

I have chain, static load straps, AND the recovery strap. Diffent usages for each.

About that Billy Barty shovel, it'll do, in a pinch, but on a hard day, with a lot of snow or sand, if you have a roof rack especially, you'll wish like hell you had a real shovel.
