This is off topic, but my wife and I are planning a 4 day stay in/around portland in April for our anniversary. Neither of us has ever stayed there. Any recommendations? Activities (other than the obvious)? Someone mentioned Phoenix Inn Suites in Tigard...which I think might be a good place.... Any broadway shows going to be in town? ..... Thanks.

I don't live in Portland, but I've been down there and it's a fun place to visit.
I'd stay downtown because you can walk to everything. The Hilton and the Marriott are close to Niketown, and the Columbia Sportswear Store, not to mention McCormick and Schmicks Steakhouse for a snack. Walk the Riverfront to China Town and ride the Trolley back.
Pioneer Place for more shopping. (Williams Sonoma, Sur La Table, and Pottery Barn.) The Pearl District has great places for drinks and appetizers! It also has neat galleries. And more shopping for Home Decorating. (Your wife's gonna have a blast!!)
Don't forget to make sure the Hummer will fit in the parking garage, or leave it with the valet so everyone can admire it!
I forgot the guy things. I do have friends that provide Guide Services for salmon/sturgeon fishing. That's a must, if you like it. The spring Salmon will be in by then and they can pick you up at Waterfront Park/ walking distance.
Lastly, reserve a day for a Hummer Gathering!
P.S. If you leave in the afternoon, spend the first night at the Columbia River George Hotel in Hood River, OR. Very romantic.

OKay. There's the shopping agenda. Have Fun!
PM me if you need more!

PM me with your plans. Maybe I'll be here. Moab is the 13th through ?

SEASIDE, Oregon!

The most beautiful and romantic place on the Westcoast. Before we had our boys, we use to go there as much as possible. You won't go wrong. Stay away from Portland. Too many bridges.

Yeah, go to Seaside, like Dennis, and end up with more kids.

Note to self: Take Hubby to Seaside more often! And you can drive your Hummer on the beach!

DRTYFN 03-15-2005 08:44 PM

I think you mean Gearhart.

Thanks for the tips. We'll be heading down there on the last thursday of april, and staying till sunday. Seaside would be nice, I've only been there once...about 11 years ago . Maybe stay in Portland, and then take a daytrip to seaside....Is it close enough for that?

It looks to be about 79 miles. Go for it! Driving on the beach with your sweetie is a blast. Have a great trip.

Seaside is close enough for a day trip. You could even drive up to Astoria and see the Maritime Museum and loop back down thru St. Helens on Hwy 30. Grab a map and look it up. Just an idea.

ROX 03-16-2005 03:03 AM

Oh Lookie!! There's a map that magically appeared!

KenP 03-16-2005 03:37 AM

BAM, there it is. Or should I say, Whooop, dare-it-tiz... whooop...

Doc,

The Ben Lomond hotel is fantastic and there is an El Goucho next door. Go to the OMNSI and head for the coast. The Oregon coastline is beautiful.

While your at it, find Tanya Harding, I believe DRTY keeps her around as his housekeeper.

Dug 03-16-2005 07:32 PM

Hey drtyfn- Nice flaming ******* you got yourself there.

LOL!! You mean she keeps him around as HER housekeeper. It's bribery, I'm sure.
