Inspired by a recent thread that had some people criticized for having their cars on their sig line, and my own personal curiosity, I am going to pose a couple of questions.

Why did you buy your H2?
What other vehicles do you own/owned/plan to own?

I'll start. ever since I was a kid playing with GI Joes the Hummer has always been my dream car. When the Hummer became available to civilians I really really wanted one. I remember in highschool Taco bell had some star wars promotion and you could win an opentop Hummer. I went there for lunch just about every day, but all I ended up winning was free food. When I first heard about the H2 I got really excited. I was itching for a new car and it seems my dream car became a bit more practical. I went and test drove one in August of '02, and fell in love. After searching around for a dealer that wasn'r marking them up 10k, I bought it and picked it up September 27th. I have loved it every day since.

Well to list past vec would take way too long.

Presently I have the H2 , Jimmy, Custom 99 4x4 Suburban, S2000 and a slightly smoked sandrail, 69 Chev PU and some junkers sittiing behind the barn waiting for new life or death.

Why an H2.. I didn't have one, and they are neat!

I too always wanted a HUMMER. Although the utilitarian ability outweighed the practical daily use(ie a commute) in the H1, the H2 came out and it provided the best combo of form and function for me. I hope to get an H1 next year, but not in place of the H2; an open top H1 will be nice addition. Other rides: Suzuki GSX-R1000, Toyota Land Cruiser FJ 60, and Jeep Liberty(the wifes ride). I like the look of the Land Rover Range rover (new '03 styling) but for a significantly higher price tag than the H2 and having less cajones off-road (approach and departure angles, again)that isn't something that I'd want to have right now--- I'd feel like I was paying more for a less capable vehicle.

I have to say that my last daily driver was a new Tahoe, and I loved it too. But there are some trails/campspots that I love that such pathetic approach and departure angles made it only as capable than AWD subaru in some off-road applications.

I just wanted an H2, thought it was cool looking and needed something else to drive. hahahaha

I too wanted a Hummer after I saw them in action in Desert Storm .... I priced the first civilian Hummers ... at that time they were $250,000.00 ( not in my budget !!! ) and that is what Arnold paid for his first one; subsequently AM General has given him 8 Hummers ... Then I test drove a Hummer way before the H2, now called an H1, and it was too wide for our driveway ... so I did not get one. The H2 came out, I saw the dimensions, and yes, it does fit down our driveway, so I purchased mine months before they were released, in March, 2002 ... mine is number 146 and I enjoy it and have had great fun with it ... my daily driver is a 2003 Mercedes SL500, and we just ordered a 2004 Mercedes E500 Wagon for my wife .... in the past I have had many different Mercedes Benz's, several different Ferrari's, Volvo's, Pontiac GTO's back in the 70's, an Opel, and a Singer. I used to collect Cadillac’s – had a 1965 Fleetwood Brougham, 1959 Cad Eldorado Conv., 1985 Eldorado Conv, 1959 DeVille Conv., and a 1953 Eldorado Conv. Had to sell them all to expand our business. All in all, I love cars and I have had a “blast” with all of them ….. and now my H2, it is “fantastic” !

Why the H2.....hummmm I always wanted to get a Hummer since watching the Rock. only being 25 the H2 allowwed me to step into a hummer sooner than expected. My other cars... I have a 2002 BMW X5 and 1992 toyota Truck. I used to have a 99 M3 which I had leased and picked up the X5 when I turned it in.

I was in the military for 8 yrs and was always driving hummers and loved them. Well 10 yrs later and 2 kids we bought our H2 it is everthing I expected, people think I am crazy because I got rid of my 01 viper for it. Honestly I have to say I am much happier with the hummer I can use it all the time and dont have to worry about people scratching it.I have had numerous other vehicles and still have an 03 navigator which is good for the long trips but will never be the beast the H2 is.

Nice Albie. Good to see another BMW guy around. How do you like the X5? My mom is thinking about getting one.

Why the H2?
Actually I hated them when I saw the first photos in the mags. But after I saw my first one in person....just had to have it.

I won't mention all the other cars (though there hasn't been all that many) but here's the most important; '76 Bronco, '97 Wrangler, and my "first car" a '64 Mercury Comet Caliente.

My friends give me major crap because the wifes car and my Caliente go in the garage but the H2 stays out in the cold! I think its cuz the Comet hasn't been fired up in about 5 years but I gotta keep my baby out of the elements (though it really is a heap!).

I wanted something big, black and powerful.

I didn't pay any attention to Hummer, frankly can't remember any press about it even though I subscribe to 4-6 auto magazines, guess I just didn't look at trucks and never owned a truck. (We did test drove the H1 when it first came out years ago, but just too rough.) All the full size sedans are getting smaller and smaller, I had no choice but to look at the SUVs, and I was getting really sick about view being blocked by SUVs on the road. Aug 02 my wife and I decided to look at Cadillac Escallade, she saw this huge black Hummer H2 sitting next to the Escallade. "Hey, what's that? take a look at this truck." It was BIG, BLACK and very POWERFUL. I'll take that, what do you mean I can't, wait 2 months?

In my 20s and 30s, I had the most expensive production sports cars, but nothing compared to the Hummer experience. Hummer is like a powerful drug, our senses are numb regarding all other vehicles, by now nothing can satisfy our automobile needs like a Hummer, all other vehicles are too small and irrelevant. The only acceptable automobiles are something even bigger and more powerful than Hummer, there is none. What's next? Houston, we have a problem!

Is a Tahoe a huge behemoth? Is a Volvo XC90 a massive tank? No? Then stop refering to the H2 as a gigantic land yacht. The H2 is 9 inches shorter than the Tahoe and 2 inches shorter than the Volvo.

As for something bigger, there's plenty of bigger vehicles that would make you feel more powerful. Why don't you go get yourself a lifted Suburban from one of those places down in Redwood City? I'm sure they'd outfit a big black one just for you. Jesus, that sounded like a line from a porno. I'm still queasy after reading your post where you went on and on about "big, black & powerful". Is one of your neighbors a 49er or a Giant? Are you having Mandingo fantasies or something?

Please do not confuse me with facts.
Perception is reality.

Mac sure is right about perception. I was never crazy about the H2. Most of my friends say it is just a tahoe with different sheet metal. What ever. I was going to buy Cadillac Escalade. The same dealership sold both. I looked at Escalades; and finally said if I buy the Cadillac I will probably say "I should have bought the Hummer". Plus the Hummer fits my style "IN YOUR FACE"! I am not really into cars; but I own a BMW328 2000 Convertible and a 1990 Jeep. I am into boats: I have a 35 Bertram powered by 3208T Cats, a 17' Yankee Dory, 21' sail boat, two Jetskies, two kayaks, a paddleboat and a 12' Zodiac rubber boat.

Why the H2....Why Not!

I wanted an H1...but it's out of range for me to buy/maintain.

What I really wanted was the "Concept" H2...what a vehicle that was going to be, but,....I am "very" happy with my H2.

Other vehicles...not worth even mentioning, except for maybe the RC Hummer H2 from Sams....that's pretty cool!

why I bought a hummer, it is simple I got stuck in the snow with my YELLOW xterra on christmas day... but it wasnt the getting stuck part.. while digging myself out, I had my brother drive while I pushed (he doesnt have the girth for such things), I twisted my left ankle and tore some ligaments... getting back into the car, barely able to push the clutch. i declared aloud, F*CK this...I am getting a hummer.. unaslob

I looked at the Escalade, Navigator and then the H2 (tells you how much REAL offroading I do). So many people stared during the H2 test drive, and I fell in love with the whole truck. The way it rode, looked and the potential it had to do anything I may try. So I bought it.

I loved Hummers since the first time I saw them. I joined the Marine Corps partially so I could play around in them more.

I knew I would never be able to afford one, until they came out with the H2. And since I work for GM I got the nice hook discount price on one.

Unlike most of you that have cars that cost more than my house, my list of cars have always been more practical.

It's a looong drawn out story, but here goes...

My wife has been driving Suburbans now for 8
years. I was driving a 2500 ext. cab 4x4 Chevy.

One of my kids started driving his own truck, a 97 Disco thats been heavily modded (this will
come up again later) and the other two kids are
no longer in child seats.

The wife had had enouf of the "big" Suburbans
and wanted to go back to a BMW. (She had to
give up her 5 series wagon 8 years ago) So
she went to the X5. Nice SAV, but not alot of
room for road trips.

That left me to get a car for road trips,
vacations, etc. It had to seat at least 6, and
it had to be 4X4.(the reasons for 4X4 are to
come later)

The first things I considered were, Suburban,
Tahoe, Caddy Esc and the Ford versions of the
same. Seeing how I own my own business and have
been dealing with GM for ever, and buy about 15
chevy work trucks a year, my best deals were GM.
(not to mention that my father worked at a
Chevy dealership for 12 years)

I'm too young for a Caddy, (no....really!) and
due to my 4x4 needs, I would probobly have to
modify a Sub or Tahoe. Seeing how I would be
driving this truck daily, I didn't want a
heavily modded truck.

Now to my 4x4 "needs", I hunt alot,(need 4x4)
and I have to go to Virginia to pick up my
son from school alot. When his school has a
leave weekend, no matter the weather, I have
to drive to Virginia and pick him up. I have
had to drive through a couple of blizzards so
far, and my 2500 barely made it.

And the final 4x4 "need" is that when my son
does come home, the first thing he does is see
how stuck he can get his Disco. I being your
typical stupid parent, have let him keep on
modifying his truck to the point that he can
now actually take it HALF way to Hell and back.
(and I have to get it the other half)

.......but most important is.......


The H2 is sooooo KEWL!
