I was looking at an 05 H2 with the navigation system today and I was surprised to learn that there is only a single DVD/CD drive. Thus, when using the navigation system you can’t play a CD and the other way around!
Thus, on long trips when you need your nav system, forget about playing CDs. What’s the deal with that? Are there any good after market CD players/changer that will integrate tightly with this system so you can have the Nav DVD in and working all of the time, and still play CDs? |

Another chance to post my changer pic!
![]() I junked the OnStar and wired in the Escalade's external CD player in its place. I can now play CDs while the NAV is active. In the picture, notice "CDX D1 T23" is displayed on the NAV screen. The changer is controlled by the NAV unit and the steering wheel controls, and it works perfectly. ![]() |

What about remote changers, something that's under the seat or in the middle console?

I'm not sure if it would play OK if mounted vertically, so you are on your own for testing that. There are aftermarket adapters that allow you to use other brands of changers, but they have a checkered history of problems. If you do a search on this site for Soundgate or PAC you will come up with a lot of info. I prefer to stick with GM parts if I can. So far, no compatibility problems doing it my way. |

Maybe the 2006 models will get the same nav as the Corvette C6 - very nice...
"Sound System with Navigation New for 2005, an available navigation system with Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) is displayed in the center of the instrument panel. The system is DVD-based and one disc contains all of the map data for the 48 contiguous United States and most of Canada. An audio CD player is hidden behind the navigation screen that also doubles as the AM/FM Bose audio system and is controlled through touch-screen technology. The navigation system also includes voice-activation technology that can trigger a hands-free system search. For example, you may want to search for restaurants in the area. Simply press “Push to Talk,” then say “I’m hungry.” The navigation screen will then display restaurants in the area, and route guidance directions will be projected in the Head-Up Display in street mode." Also wouldn't mind the keyless entry... If the above is good enough for Chevy (and already in the GM parts bin) why not for Hummer.... |

I have a '04 Caddy CTS. It has 2 slots - top for the nav dvd and bottom for 6 cd's. And it has XM. The best part - it's $10,000 cheaper then my H2!
