H2-T2 12-16-2002 01:14 PM

With all the big tires people are putting on their H-2's, I was wondering if anyone is making fender flair extensions. The big tires really throw a lot of spray on the sides of the vehicle. gary..

Another reason to flip in the side mirrors when driving through mud pools.
Also watch out for little stones wedging in profile of tires and then when get loose propell and damage the side mirror. I found that out when I finaly figured out this was the reason for small chips under side mirror. Couldn't be small birds fighting with their own mirror image.

What are these flares made of? (Easy to paint) plastic or chrome?

Mine dont look like those in the photo. These are plastic and comes in 6 pieces. I am sure you could have them painted, but doubt it would hold with gravel and such.

Wanted some to keep from throwing muddy gravel all over the roof and from pelting the windshield.

I also know Stillen.com makes flares for the H2. Their products are usually first class. I have yet to see a pair, but I am considering buying some for the same reason.

I also believe the dealers are selling some flares, not sure who makes them though.

My black plastic stock flares are already scratched to hell from the trail. The paint tends to do much better on the sides of the truck, maybe the flares just catch the branches differently.

If you do a search, a while back someone posted that his buddy was in the works of making two kinds of flares for the H2. A "street" flare to be more refined, and a more aggressive "offroad flare" if I remember correctly. I think he posted a pic of one, and I asked him a question but nothing happened that I saw. Try finding it, maybe email the guy if you can.

Installed Street Scene Flares today....they suck! don't fit very well. I will use these until I can replace them with better ones, and these things will be history.

But check this web site:
Street Scene H2 Fender Flares
This is where I got the sales pic from.
But if you say these suck?
Also check tgue's thread on this topic.
Difficult to choose!
I also prefer bigger flares, made w/ similar finish and color as stock.
Like EGClassics:

So anxious to get more info from tgue.

Stillen fender flares

Here's a few pictures of the StreetScene Flares

I just threw these Pro Comp X-terrain 37/13.50/17's on with Weld StoneCrushers with backspacing of 4.62. The flares are 3.5 inch and are about $400.
Hope this helps....

Nice work, Jeff!
Where the flares already painted/finished black when you got them? Do they install over the stock flares? Thanks, JCJ

Jeff 09-24-2003 01:57 PM

JC,
They're black flexible plastic, ready for paint but I like the standard look. Also they replace your original ones using the factory hardware(star screws) and take about an hour to install.

RasterMaster 09-24-2003 02:39 PM

The Flares in the pics look fine! Mine don't fit so good around the area where the flares curve in above tube steps, but other than that they look good and appear like the same material as stock (which is what I wanted). I will use the hell out of these until I get some EG Classics, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

JCJ, let me know if you get the EG Classics!
