So if you are sitting in the passenger seat the air bag light is on if you are not in the seat the light is off. How does it know if you are sitting there or not?

Maybe I should re-phrase the question, what weight does the passenger air bag light come on automatically?

Hmmm.....Not sure.
![]() My dog is 75lbs and she is not heavy enough to turn on the air bag. |
I believe it is 80 lbs. I think it mentions it in the manual.

Basically there is a "gel sensor" in the seat. As the gel is displaced at a specified weight, it actives a switch. Above a weight, the switch is closed and the air bag is activated via the SDM and will be deployed if required. Under a apecified weight, the switch is not closed, and the SDM will not deploy a bag.
