I installed the VCI-GM2 in my truck over the weekend and every thing works just like it suppose to, what I want to do now is to be able to turn the rear cam on at any time. I know people have done this just not sure how?

i did the setup you have with the Hcam
http://www.mobilevideo4less.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?S...AM&Category_Code=MCC
and used a relay and a switch in the dash

it was a fairly easy install you could contact your local stereo shop or send me a pm and i will help you if i can

Jay, I bought a camera from ebay and mounted it in the rear tire plate frame, looks and works pretty good. I'm going to add a switch to turn on the rear cameara at any time but not sure how to do it? I know i have to tap into the blue wire to give it power? but i think im going to be turning on the brake lights when a do this? any thought?

I installed my camera (well, cameras, I have one for rear driving and one pointed towards the hitch and a third one on my enclosed trailer) but I have to flip to VTR and therefore lose my sound. Unfortunately, using the eclipse system, you either have to buy their own brand camera or hardwire it into the back of the eclipse...

Phil, I'm trying to do your B plan, i dont know how to hook up the relay or diode? any thoughts?

Jimstepside 04-07-2006 08:57 AM

I installed a vci-gm1 adapter in my truck. There should be a switch on the adapter to turn the screen on whenever you want.

FiremanJay 04-07-2006 11:54 AM

Who i used both a relay and a diode.
I tapped into the reverse circut at the rear lights placed a diode there then wired a relay at my adapter to use a switch the switch will trick the adapter into thinking its in reverse, and when placed in reverse it automatically comes on. The relay i used was a mini relay that was allready wired the colors of the wires were red, black, orange, brown, and yellow
i dont know which posts they go to on the relay but i figured it out using a spare battery setup on my work bench before i installed it in the truck
hope this helps.
you could talk to kodiakz and he will probably give you the correct way to wire it up

Jay, that is exactly what I want to do, can you tell me any more about the diode or relay? Are there different kinds? what kind would I need? I would love to see a diagram on how to hook this up. thanks

A good reputable stereo shop should have both or you can go to radio shack and they should be able to help you with your needs.

Does your adapter look like this?

WHOSNEXT 04-07-2006 08:45 PM

thats it

I installed the VCI-GM1 adapter because I don't have a touch screen. My adapter has the mini toggle switch so I can switch to back-up view any time I want. As far as the reverse trigger wire, that is in the junction box under the dash by your left foot. I believe it is a light green wire.

Jimstepside 04-07-2006 09:13 PM

I wired a relay as per the instructions that came with the adapter, but it was affecting my radio. I called PAC and they told me I didn't need it. Red wire to ignition 12v, black wire to ground, the reverse signal wire to the reverse output from the truck in the junction box under the dash, and that was it. Works great. My camera is a flush mount that I mounted in the rear bumper, and that I wired to ignition 12v and ground, and plugged the video cable into the PAC adapter. The camera is powered up whenever the truck is on but no display unless in reverse or I hit the toggle switch.

JIM, do you have a dvd hooked up to yours? My switch goes to video 1 one way for dvd and normal radio the other, when i put in reverse it goes to video for back up camera. i believe that is the way it is suppose to work? I’m just try to add another switch to actavate rear cam any time.

Jimstepside 04-07-2006 10:10 PM

No, I don't. I would suggest that you call PAC direct to see if they can help you. I do think that is the way it is supposed to work. Sorry I couldn't help... I have been thinking about putting a dvd player in. How is the display with movies?
