Once again, would like someone that knows more about this tell me if it is a good idea to blacken a chrome wheel. I'm looking to get that black chrome look rather that a powder coated look. Is this possible? How is it done? And, is it expensive or is difficult to find somebody that does this well?

Thanks for the help!

They cazn powder coat your wheel with black pearl or "black chrome". We have done that on several cars on the lot, and it looks sick

Got any pics? I've seen some other vehicles with black chrome wheels, and they look very nice. Been considering it myself...

On my BMW they have that.. At least thats what I think it is.. It does look cool but real chrome is better imo.

Was that done on top of the chrome? So that the wheel used to be plain chrome before blackening?

black chrome is a process in it's own, done the same way as regular chrome.

We can do it in house. PM Dragon He will let You know. It is hard for Him to go through all the threads and offer help so We are just trying to get people to PM Him first and then call 501-327-MODS. it may be possible that We can do it and charge a core as We have a new set of factory rims and once You get them ship Yours 2 us. Yours need to be very nice because We would be using nice rims for You.

Just to clarify, It can be done on a already chromed (or polished) wheel in quality manner?

Thanks!!!

HUMMERcustoms.com/TAZ 07-04-2005 08:18 PM

It can be done on already chromed but, get the most recent info from Dragon. WE can do blue, red, black, and many others colors of chrome.

I go to the shop at least 1 to 2 times a week but, Dragon runs everything just like in My other companies I find partners who have the knowledge and turn it over to them. I spend more time with Dragon as I have more fun there. I would go every day if i could but, try hard to twice. Other wise We are on the phone or email many times a day. He is learning more about Hummers everyday as the service manager is really into what We are dong with My rig so Dragon and He talk allot. If We do not have it figured out which We ususally do We just call and He teachs us. It blows His mind when We call and tell Him something that We found We could do that He has no info on. We keep all the tech software on several computers for all the guys to have access to.

Sorry vehicles withblack chrome have all been sold, but as soon as we do more I will post them. I am pretty sure wheels were sandblasted first, but I am not sure. I think my parts dept. charges the sales dept. $995 per set for the black chroming

HUMMERcustoms.com/TAZ 07-04-2005 09:38 PM

Churchill there are several process. I do not do it but, for some reason I think there is an acid We use to change the texture of rim so it will take the black chrome. This way they are left smooth and it is just a very light etching that to feel and eye is smooth. Do not take it as fact but, I have only been around the process off and on. I think Your are right though about price. Around $1000 plus core for Us so We have a nice set to do it for the next guy. If the core comes in and not almost new looking, it could cost core charge as well. We will not be unfair but, We try to make the customer understand that in an exchange situation they have to send Us as good as We send them. If local allot of times they just bring their own rims and We look them over and see if there are things wrong We cannot get out of their finish and take Pics before and after and have customer sign them recognizing the problems etc.

that doesn't look black to me. it looks like more of a darker gunmetal or a gray/bronze. perhaps a powdercoat. i'll search for more pics of that h2 and see if i can't be more exact.

H2Singh 07-06-2005 02:38 AM

do you have to do whole wheel? or could you just do the center, or maybe leave the lip regular chrome and rest black???

MotorsportsAuthority aka Dragon 07-06-2005 12:50 PM

do you have someone that does powdercoating that you could consult? if not, i do, but the black chrome that we would do looks darker than that.

HUMMERcustoms.com/TAZ 07-06-2005 11:30 PM

Dragon after Your mentioning it the black chrome We do is darker. I had not noticed it before. That maybe a powder coat then.

I thought powder coated looked much less shiny and did not look like chromed at all. That one sure is shiny and reminds me of a dark chrome.
