On the way home I made a right hand turn on red, it was tight so I barely bumped the tire (but did none the less). The truck stopped and wouldn't proceed. For the second I started thinking where to pull over, I was only going about 5 MPH. Then the H3 started back as normal like nothing happened.

So on my BMW Z3 I have the traction control (limited slip) like the H3. I am very used to how it responds especially when wet. Anyway, the H3 acted the same way, but only over a little bump on the curb.

It felt like the truck was turned off - so I ask is this normal for a little bumb to do this? If so how do any of us go off-roading?

This may be more of a explain and educate me issue opposed to a mechanical problem. Somthing just doesn't seem right though.

You know mine did something very similar today. I did a fast u-turn to the left. Well I think I might have hit a lil sand or something cause the traction control came on but it stopped the truck rather than control it. I was throttleing but it felt like I nailed the brakes. It was a weird experience. It didn't seem right!

Might I ask, did the vehicle's engine actually stop, or was there a reduced power?
I have not experienced this in the H3, however, my Vette used to do that when making a very sharp turn and one wheel hitting gravel or a soft surface. It would appear the engine had stopped, but the DIC would display Active Handling and the idiot lights would flash, then it would surge ahead.

I think it was reduced power for me but since I was going so slow it felt like it actually stopped. I mean my brain started thinking of where to park the thing and all of a sudden the gas was back on. I don't recall any lights coming on though.

very interesting! i too flipped a left hand u turn thru a freeway median and as the front right tire was moving over onto the pavement again the traction control locked it up abruptly then released... when im offroad im usually in 4 lo and that disables the traction control

Just turn the thing off and see if it cures it?

Press and hold the traction control for 5 seconds (auto transmission).

Yeah but I like the option having it on. It only happened once, I would rather have it fixed then disable it. (that is if it is really broken) thanks for the low down though on turning it off.
