2003 HUMMER H2 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Paint Peeling from Side Assist Step (Repaint Assist Step) #03-08-61-003 - (11/04/2003) Paint Peeling from Side Assist Step (Repaint Assist Step) 2003-2004 HUMMER H2 Condition Some customers may comment that the side assist step has some peeling paint around the edges. Cause The step may have some sharp edges that the paint cannot adhere to. Correction Repaint the assist step following the procedure below. Remove the assist step(s). Refer to the Assist Step Replacement Removable U Step procedure in SI (Document ID #865705). Clean the step with soap and water. Clean the step with wax and grease remover. Remove paint blisters with 3M™ Roloc™ #0746. Radius all the sharp edges with 3M™ Roloc™ Grind Disc 1396, 50 Grit. Hand sand all edges with 150 grit. Feather edge all bare areas and chips with 180 Grit. Feather edge all the bare areas and chips. Prime the bare areas per 4901m "Aluminum" system. Scuff the entire step with Scotch-Brite® General Purpose Pad-Maroon. Clean the step with wax and grease remover. Paint the step per 4901M-D-2003. Reinstall the assist step. Warranty Information For vehicles repaired under warranty, use: Labor Operation Description Labor Time B7777 Step, Assist (Right) - R&R (one) 0.3 hr B7778 Step, Assist (Left) - R&R (one) 0.3 hr B7779 Step, Assist (Both) (per side) - R&R 0.7 hr Add Color/Clear Coat-Right or Left (one) 0.9 hr (GH) Add Color/Clear Coat-Both (per side) 1.2 hrs (GL) Add Refinish/Clear Coat-Right or Left (one) 1.1 hrs (GK) Add Refinish/Clear Coat-Both (per side) 1.6 hrs (GP) Add Paint Mix Times 0.4 hr |
