i love my new H3. that said, i have to admit that i know little about the hummer and its history. i traded in my BMW M3 for this beast and i am getting bashed by a lot of people on the other forums i go to. its been called a trouble prone american vehicle all the way to a fake hummer.

so, i ask you this...

1. is the H3 really a hummer and why? i mean, its a GM.

2. how does one argue the point that the H3 is a real hummer?

yes, i am a little to old for boy-ish online fights, but as an avid car/truck enthusiast it would be nice to have some good solid arguments when a heated discussion/debate occurs.

thanks!!!

I'd be interested too. I guess where does AMG fall into the H3 picture?

PARAGON 08-04-2005 09:44 PM

1. Yes, yes it is.

2. It says so right there on it.

H3H - AMG is a Mercedes company. I believe you are referring to AM General the company that that GM licenses the Hummer name from.

Since you asked, here is a little Hummer history. You should probably memorize this since you now own one...

That's what I meant by AMG, not the in-house tuning company for MB (Mercedes-Benz).

The best way to win an argument
is to just,
1. smile
2. turn around
3. and walk away

All Hummer's after the H1 are built in the spirit of it's tradition. Given the recent Q&A with the new marketing director for Hummer it's obvious GM is being careful that any new vehicles that get the Hummer name have real off-road capabilities and are in keeping with the original H1's tradition. All Hummers originated from the military's High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV). Even the Hummer name is an english corrected/derived version of the military abbreviation.

I agree with crop000s...It it just not worth your time. I get that with the H2, and I imagine everyone gets it here and there. Some people just do not understand that we bought them because we like them...

THIS IS A REAL HUMMER!!!!!!!! Of course it is better around town but it is fantastic off-road aswell. Exterior styling is "HUMMER." Off-road Performance is "HUMMER" and so is everything else. People dont like the fact that HUMMER is growing. You see, the daddy H1 as just discovered viagara.

Hell even an H1 has been said to not be a real hummer depending on the year. An H1 is only a true Hummer when it is a '92 so I have heard given its mechanical 6.2 engine and little to no electronics.

The best defense is offense. If some tells you that it is not a real Hummer ask them to proce it to you. You do not have to prove anything. They say it has the same engine. Tell them the differences (I think there are some). They say that it has the same frame. Hell a if you make a brail version of the picture of the colorado and H3 frame you could tell how much different it is.

Here's your ammmo....

Vertical Scaling Height 16.0 in. SAME AS H2

Side Slope Capability 40.0% SAME AS H2 & H1

Grade Capability 60.0% SAME AS H2 & H1

Water Fording Depth 24.0 in. @ 5 mph MORE THAN H2

WHAT MORE...IT'S A HUMMER.

I was in the Walmart parking lot when a guy in a VW Bug made a comment about the H3 not being a real Hummer. I pointed to my Spare Cover (Hummer H3) and told him if he thought it was false advertising, sue GM.

I then showed him the climbing ability by climbing and crushing his VW. (Well, that's what I thought about doing, but didn't. My insurance doesn't cover that.)

It is a Hummer to me, and I make the payments.

H3OH 08-05-2005 02:37 AM

The proper response is...

"Nah, it's not a real Hummer. I got a REAL one from your girlfriend last night."

If only we were allowed to do that

Great response but I am thinking I would be in big trouble if my wife heard me say I got one from my girlfriend
