For a variety of reasons having to do with practical needs, I have decided I want to keep my tire carrier and remove the tailgate on my SUT. I believe I saw a picture of Bam Margera's SUT and he had done the same. Is ther anything I am missing about why that is a bad idea? It's a good idea for me specific needs but I wonder if it will screw anything up.

Thoughts?

Ok, nevermind. I did it and it was easy and it looks really really good and unusual. The tailgate weighs practically nothing and came off with only 4 screws.

No more reaching across the tailgate and not being able to climb up over the thing. The tire carrier still holds stuff in and I put an airflow net on it in case I need it.

It can't cause much of a problem to lose the tailgate as it is light and can't do much structurally.

I think it looks a lot better than taking off the tire carrier and it's more practical to keep the spare and lose the gate. 2x4's etc will now fit with the divider down cause they can hang out the back. Awesome Idea if I do say so myself.

Correction: it comes off without removing any screws.

All you have to do is slide it out at the right angle and unclip the straps. I've done this several times to carry long stuff. The tire carrier can kind of hold stuf in there too.
