I have a loaner 03 EXT while the wifes 02 Escalade is in the shop. The EXT has HID's and they are awesome. I'm not willing/wanting to spend the money for HID's for the H2. Is there a replacement bulb that I can buy that is "almost" like HID's that is safe and reliable? Part numbers, manufacturers and comments would be appreciated. With all the deer in PA I need better lights.....and a plow.

Try the Sylvania Silver Stars. They are brighter and whiter than stock bulbs. Available at Walmart for approx. $38.00 for a double pack. Also at Pep Boys for Approx. $25.00 per bulb.

There are a bunch of HID like bulbs out there and I think that you would be happy with most of them, I have a set that I bought online from a light retailer and they are 6000K which I think is one of the brightest bulbs available on the market. They are kind of pricey but I think that the light they emit is worth the money. I would also suggest getting a pair of bright white lights for the DRL as well. Then you will have the full bright white front look and if you run the cross over for the DRL's then you will have more light then.... Good luck... PIAA makes some good ones as well....Do a search on here and you will find tons of topics on this matter....

I also bought the Silver Stars. The difference over the stock bulbs is huge, much brighter and a much whiter light.

I also opted for the Sylvania Silverstars. Sylvania also makes the OEM bulbs so these should be good quality. I have to say they do make a improvement in lighting on the H2, especially on High Beams. Well worth the investment!

89vette,

also check-out this source for bulbs.

there is a Hella bulb that is very close to the same light spectrum as HID.

I have HID's, but find the Piaa Xtreme White bulbs to be very good, more light, brighter light, and a better color temp. Silverstars are okay, but I think the Piaa's are better.

Steer clear of many of the cheap fake Xenon bulbs, as they are often just regular bulbs painted blue. Higher color temp, but at the cost of brightness. I have Xtreme White bulbs in all my aux lighting and they are very bright and very white.

Phil, do you have some pics of your HID's?
