I am installing the factory H2 grille guard lamps and would like to install my switch below the rear wiper controls.

For those of you who have installed a switch here - could you please help a newbie with some directions. Do I need to take the dash apart to put the switch here?

The rest of the wiring is somewhat simple but, like some other H2 owners, I don't want to put the switch in the overhead console.

Thanks everyone!

Just remove the silver bolts from that vent piece and the cover piece comes off. Once off, you will see the little "black box" where you want to mount the switch. Just pops out....

very simple...

Thanks Lil Devil,
I'll give it a try today, hopefuly without scratching things up too much

Lil Devil is right,it's very easy do remove. The light switch for my h2 was in the overhead console. I could not stand it there so I replaced the console and installed the switch below the rear wiper switch. Took about 20 min. C

Michael,

I had the trim the "little black box" to accommodate the switch. You can modify the box with some wire cutters......just "knibbe" at the plastic housing until switch fits.

Thanks for your help everyone

Once I took the two hex bolts out it was all pretty easy, like you said. I also pulled off the panel on the side of the dash where the fuses go which gave me a better view of everything (and boy is it ugly under there!)

My wife came out to the garage when I had the dash apart and screamed! (Think maybe she doesn't trust me?)

Anyway, took out, and drilled out, the switch block with no problems. Boy, the light switch does look nice there, seems to make more sense than in the overhead console I think. (Why would Hummer want it up there anyway?)

As I have the electronic trailer brake setup I tapped into another 12v source next to that plug, one that would switch off when you turn off the ignition (another thing that made more sense to me).

Thanks again everyone!
