I have the new spare ready to mount on the tire carrier. My only problem is getting it up there. It's a freaking monster and the wife can't help pick this thing up.
I was thinking about renting a crane, but that's a couple hundred bucks an hour with a minimum of three hours. I could also call an Over the Road tire company with a portable crane to help. What about a local construction company? I could borrow a cherry picker or backhoe. I have a neighbor with a Vette. I bet I could roll the tire down the street real fast, up his hood, to the roof and then wiggle it on the truck. Thanks for your help. I really need this mounted soon. BTW, I did think of using the P/U bed backed up to the H2, but not until the tire was out of the truck. ![]() ![]() |

Rent a Cherry Picker. Or, you can get one at Sam's for around $150, usually.

String a come-along up over a tree branch and winch the bastard up then back up to it and slide it on. That is what I did when I decided that it would be a good idea to take it off.

Good suggestins, gang, but not quite there yet.
What if I bounce it off the deck, into the P/U, stand it up and back the SUT up to it? Just not sure about the bouncing part. Oh, Oh... I could buy one of those inflatable kiddie toys, put the tire on it and inflate the toy. Yeah!!!! |

I actually had the same problem before.
My solution was to place one of those little giant folding ladder in its most extended (open) position next to the H2, then rolled/lifted the tire to the top of the ladder, balanced it on the top most step, climbed on the H2 roof, grab the tire, and tip it down gently onto the roof. After 3x, I bought a rear tire carrier. |

Wuss. I know your spare is bigger than stock, but you should be able to heft it up there. Just make sure CP's not around with the video cam. I was glad I was inside my closed garage, alone when I mounted my spare. It might have been embarassing otherwise.
Or get one of these. http://www.predatormotorsports.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=5 Teaka might have it cheaper. Or, along the lines of a winch, custom fab a rear winch bumper, rig a pully on a flip up arm above the carrier and lift it up that way. |
Will a 60" hi-lift with the tire attachment get it high enough?
