powder coat repair question
Have a Gobi roof rack, and I was at the dealer today and happen to be walking on my roof and noted a small patch of powder coat had flaked off and the bare metal was rusting. Now what is the best way to repair it? or do I even need to worry about it? Would the best bet be to get some sand paper and a can of paint, or is there more to it than that? I really don't want to make it worse.

Re: powder coat repair question
If thats a NEW Gobi rack and your allready having paint problems its going to get worse. Powder coat paint if applied right will last a long time. Sounds like Gobi cut corners if its peeling allready. I would contact Gobi or your vendor about warrentry, and have the rack replaced or repainted. For the cost of that rack it should NOT be peeling or rusting at all.

Ditto, I bought a gobi ladder and it was dripping rust after the first rain. I called them to see what to do and they sent me another ladder. No questions. Great customer service. Call them, see what they say:confused: |
Re: powder coat repair question
well crap, I sorta hate to do that to timgco. seems there has to be a better way than replacing it. aside from being a hassle I'd like to figure out some way of just fixing it. they are such awesome racks... I'll contact gobi and see if they have any ideas. you guys recon that bed liner in a can stuff would work okay?

Re: powder coat repair question
I agree, fixing it would be alot easier than replacing it.

Re: powder coat repair question
It shouldn't be difficult to cover up that patch that has peeled, but that particular area has become exposed to the elements, and you will just be sealing in any corrosion, and causing it to rust from the inside out.
If you plan on keeping that rack longer than 6 months, I would have them send you another, or pay to have this one media blasted, primed, and re-powdercoated. IMO |
