Black Center Caps....some do, some don't? Why?

I noticed this today b/c I pass this lot at least 2 times every day since its just down the street from me. The moved all the 3's around and seeing them side-by-side now it stood out. Some have all silver wheels, some silver with black one black spoke through the center??? Is this something that always has been around and I just haven't noticed it until now?

I picked mine up first part of February and mine are all silver. Not sure exactly when it was changed but new units have that all silver center caps. I believe it was when they also changed the location of the GM logo on the sides.

And I picked mine up the last part of Janurary, it had black on the center caps. Now they are all black.

Here is another thread that covers this ... well the first few posts anyway. ;)

I've never checked my build date, have you DEI?

I know when I bought mine they were saying at the dealership that they had finally sold that black one that had been sitting there since the first shipment though :p ;)

Oh... that's just mean.

I checked, it was built 11/05.

I will have to check mine. Did you check via sending the VIN to someone?

No, I checked the sticker in the door.

That is what I thought so I just went out and checked mine. According to the sticker as the bottom right corner of the drivers door sill mine was built in 12/05. Guessing that about the first of December is when they moved the GM logo and started putting on the all silver center caps. I did notice the night that I got it that every one of the few they had with the all silver center caps also had the logo in the new location.

Ordered mine in November and they built it the week before Christmas.
I have the all silver and the GM up higher.

Those who like bling seem to go "no black"...thus the no black...black is good.

When I picked mine up in June of 05, the other ones on the lot had the all silver wheels on them.

Yes, the 'GM' logo's are stick-on, no holes.
